Default SD Card: 32mb = How long?

The maximum size of the SD card for the PDR is 32MB. How long a recording can you get with that sized card?

It will tell you when you load it. I don't recall but it is a lot of hours.

First of all, I've got a 128GB SD card that works great - any size card will work if you format it in FAT32 before using it.

Here's a picture of my screen with a 32GB SD card in it - I added up all the recorded sessions and they added up to 583 minutes, and there are still 151 minutes remaining. That gives a total of 734 minutes on my 32GB card:

Below is with an empty 16GB card, and it has more than 6 hours it can record:

The SD card for the PDR must be inserted in the slot in the glove compartment:

I went with a 16 GB card. Cost around $9.00.

There have been a lot of threads on this over the years. 32GB cards and smaller typically come pre formatted in FAT32. Larger cards are typically formatted in exFAT. This is where the myth that 32GB is the largest card the PDR can use cames from.

Any size card will work as long as it is formatted in FAT32. If you are using a Windows machine to format the card, you will need a third party utility to reformat any card larger than 32GB to FAT32 (Windows will do 32GB cards and smaller natively). This is what I did, I am running a 64GB card.

Here are some previous threads:

Youtube video showing to to reformat the card, says it's for using a larger card in phones but it is the same thing for the PDR:

The 32GB limit started back in the Win2000 days (I ran a Win2k system until just a few years ago... surprisingly reliable, that OS), but Win98 could format as large as 128GB on FAT32 volumes. I have no answer as to why MS decided to downgrade the capability, other than to hypothesize they wanted to push the NTFS system more heavily.

Nutshell, you should be able to go up to 128GB cards... assuming the recording system has no issues with it.

* about 748 minutes

* most manufactures use the FAT file system on 32GB cards and smaller

* Larger capacity , ie 128GB cards , can be formated to the FAT file system if you are good with computers

* For those of us that are older, have older computers, are not very tech oriented , and I fall into all those categories you can buy a 32GB card and just plug it into the glove box and then press " record " on the PDR...............my kind of easy.

and if I need more than 13 hours of recording time, I'll just go out and buy another 32gb card. They are just not that expensive.

Yeah, I load the files onto my computer after every track event so the card is basically empty at the beginning of each event.

Boiler thank you for the link on how to reformat. I didn't realize when I purchased the 64gb until the drive home it would not recognize due to the format. Took one download and reformat and works great now!

I agree 32GB is big enough for every track application. Some people use the PDR as a driving cam to record their drives. I guess it would be possible to exceed the capacity of the 32GB. In my case, the 64GB was not much more expensive than the 32GB. I figured more is better. I can be a bit lazy and not clean up the card with any regularity.
