Buddy brought his C7 into dealership to get the HUD adjusted. Service pulled his steering wheel to do that. They damaged the leather on his steering wheel during the process and provided him a new steering wheel.
After they installed the new steering wheel, on his drive home, he noticed the steering wheel is not perfectly aligned with the front tires (when car is going straight, the steering wheel is about 6 degrees off center).
Upon bringing it back for a fix, he was told that there is only one way for the steering wheel to be installed (guessing the spline is keyed to match the steering wheel), so they offered no fix. Steering wheel is 6 degrees off center
He went to another dealership and was told they would do an alignment to correct the issue. He thinks the problem can be corrected w/o an alignment, dealership will not do any corrective measure without doing the alignment.
They will have to do an alignment and also adjust the center of the electric power steering so it doesn't pull. Looking at my spare C7 wheel, it appears that there are splines, but there is also a ~1/8" "key" at 6 oclock. Not sure how his steering could end up off unless something happened to knock the car out of alignment.
Not sure if a C7 is the same as a C6 and older corvettes. If the tie rods have the same type ends. It would be easy for them to adjust the wheel alignment there.
I have aligned my truck wheel myself after getting it back from alignment shop. You don't usually see it tell you drive home.
When replacing the steering wheel, it is easy to not get it back on "straight". I did it myself when I installed a 2016 flat bottomed wheel on my 2015.
I would suggest your friend re-pull the wheel (or ask the original Dealer to do so) and try reinstalling it before getting into alignments, power steering adjustments, etc. There are step by step instructions here in the forum.

Hmmm... Guess I didn't realize that was possible to get it on wrong. When you look at the wheel it does have a key area to it. Guess when we did my dad's car we must've got it right the first time. At least it's an easy fix assuming the OP can get the dealer to do it. Personally I'd do it myself. It's pretty easy to take off. Probably less hassle than taking it to the dealer a couple more times...
the highlight of which was my old C6 GS (2012) when they replaced the old GY runflats and it took them SIX TIMES, still couldn't get the wheel straight and I ended up going to a Corvette specialty establishments (Dan's Corvettes in Auburn, WA) and he sent it out to his alignment guy who basically said whoever tried to fix this didn't have a clue....to Goodyear's credit they did refund me the cost......geez

Makes me wonder if this problem is caused by alignment, or just the electric steering being off center?
