Some pretty good suggestions thus far. For a different drive you could head down to L.A. it's only about 125 miles away. Pickup route 1, better known as the PCH (pacific coast highway) and head north. Go as far as you want. All the way to Washington state would be nice.

I'll be out there March 7 - 12. Day one we plan on staying in Henderson and visiting the damn dam. Day 2 we'll take a leisurely drive to Pahrump in the afternoon and check-in. Day 3 and 4 are at the school. Day 4 after school, we are turning in the rental car and catching a taxi to Aria Hotel on the Strip. We plan on walking the strip and seeing the sights Saturday morning. Saturday night we will have dinner at Aria and head over to Bellagio to see Cirque Du Soleil. After that we will head back to Aria for their nightclub. Sunday will be sleeping late and late check-out. Not sure how to fill the void between 3pm and our midnight flight.
