a pdk or for that matter the dual clutch auto on my S4 is a different animal then the auto if only for the sound it makes when shifting however the A8 is not bad it does hold gears and anticipates my driving style. Drive slowly and it upshifts quickly to conserve gas. If you are driving with spirit is holds gears and wide open throttle holy @#(*^(
Only you can decide for yourself. I love the A8. Shift when I want, don't when I don't want; if the whole transmission falls out and I'm out of warranty, I'll get another, it's fixable. I've never understood asking people what I LIKE. I KNOW WHAT I LIKE, I don't care if they approve or not if they don't they can jump and land on the flat part of their head. LOL
I went from a string of manuals to my first DCT when I bought an Audi S5 Cabriolet--DCT was the only option. The A8 does act differently in Manual than the DCT, but play around a little--it can be really fun in M. My take is that shifting is more dependent on throttle position with the A8 than it was with the DCT, so it takes a little longer to get a "feel" for it. At least that's how it was for me. Not that you need to drive around WOT all the time, but play around a little.
Here is a useful thread to check out regarding manual shifting: THREAD
I was looking for an M7 but could not find a car at any of teh local dealers that had an M7 in the color of car I was looking for and with the options, only A8's I miss shifting but the A8 is not bad, so far. Seems responsive when driven hard.
