While i agree with you that a tune is a stretch for the MM act, it does include ANY aftermarket part, not just maintenance items. i.e. spark plugs, air intake systems etc. This is precisely why i would hope my tune would be undetectable if my torque converter needs replacement, cause it's a widely known issue...
A lot of this discussion is moot points as well cause i doubt any dealer would question a warranty issue from a tune if someone came in with a TC issue.
Your transmission worries have nothing to do with an engine tune.
I don't know why you keep bringing that up. Yes, you can tune your engine, and if it fails, warranty would be denied on it, but your transmission warranty would still be OK, unless, of course, you were running 700HP through it with a blower, headers, cat delete, and tune.
There would be no reason for a dealer to look for an engine tune if your A8 TC fails. So many of them have failed, it wouldn't raise any eyebrows. They're only going to be looking for an engine tune when deciding whether to cover a serious engine malfunction or failure.
All other parts of the car would still be covered under warranty.
And yes, MM pertains to ANY aftermarket part THAT DOES NOT FUNDAMENTALLY ALTER THE OEM SPECS OF THE VEHICLE.
They can put whatever they want in the book, but isn't there a law saying they can't deny warranty solely based on any alteration, but they have to prove the alteration caused the damage? (not 100% sure on what the law states...)
They don't need a law. All GM has to say is they will not cover it. Then you would the responsibility to force them to. Uphill battle all the way. You have to pay to play.

gotcha. i figure they limp all powertrain warranty items together in this regards so thats why i keep bringing the dreaded TC issue up.

It never ceases to amaze me how quick a thread jumps the rails and leaves the main topic for an argument between know-it-alls. If you don't have input regarding the main question, don't reply. This thread is a **** show if you are looking for information on tuners. Look elsewhere.
