GM has infact come out with the body colored vent bezzel surrond to address some of this issue. That seems to work for some colors.
They don't really bother me... they look good when they're on.
It's not the same. The C7 has that black 'wing' to the outside of the lights. I guess it's supposed to fool people into not seeing the resemblance (?) while at the same time giving the impression that the car 'flies' down the road (?)
I read an Jalopnik peice on the guy responsible for the design of the tail lights. In short, he doesn't care...
In short, he felt the design flowed with the lines of the car. There's a vid somewhere on YouTube that has him sketch out the rear of the car where he explains how it all fits together. And if you don't like the functional "black wings" (vents) there is an option to paint them the same color as the car, in which case you won't see them.
That only lasted a few months until folks saw the C7 in person.
That happened to me when I saw the Z51 in the LA Auto Show. First I disliked the lights, but when I saw it I liked the C7. My friend Jim said "I see a C7 in your future" and he was right. He knew it before I did.
Like I told an idiot in a gas station; "if you dont like the rear dont buy one".
In my mind the Corvette hadn't fully recovered from the 80s and 90s when they opted for the plain look. The C5 was a little better, and the C6 was getting there, but when they built the C7 they wanted people to know it was "not your father's Oldsmobile" and they succeeded.
Now if they had paid attention to Jan & Dean and gone with six tail lights, that would have been cool.
I like both C6 and C7 approaches . . . but, to paraphrase James Bond, think the "collar should match the cuffs." I really like the angular headlights, and think the angular approach of the taillight is a perfect complement.
PS:You should have seen the disaster over in the 911 world when the 996 came out. Wow, what an uproar! A few years ago the fire was rekindled when a big P-car show had an event featuring a T shirt with all the generations of 911 . . . EXCEPT the 996! Actually, the 996 sold great, but no one could get past the headlights.
Joe, Joe, Joe.....didn't we cover this 3-1/2 years ago?????
Come on, brother......this is the C7, no the C6. Someone made a rear end that had round tail lights for the car. You could do a search to find it-it was posted here in the C7 Community.
