For fuel tank level there is a little bitty pc card inline within the fuel supply route that reads fuel LEVEL. It will send a message to the dash gage as fuel level .. It (the pc card) gets carroded IT MUST BE KEPT CLEAN of that PESTY CORROSION.... Along came Chevron to save the C5 from total gage failure.
About twice a year I will put in a bottle of Techron Concentrate. Depending on how long I am planning to store the car, I may add some Sta-BIL to the gas.
I started using it and Mobil One, on my Honda Del Sol, many years ago, which had a lot of mountain and canyon running miles on it. It had 253,000+ hard miles (wore out two clutches) on it and the engine was fine. It was a lot of the smaller running parts that started getting expensive.

Are the cards unique to Corvettes? We're they manufactured inferior or were the materials out of spec or what that makes it a Corvette specific issue?

I don't know about you but none of my cars at 200k have been pampered. Not a drop of snake oils.
