Default Front camera activation

I suppose I could be reading my owner's manual but it's much more fun to be on this forum. My front cameras don't come on automatically all the time. I was under the impression that anytime you were moving forward below 5 mph the front cameras were active. This is not the case my GS M7. Is there a setting I need to change.

You have to go from reverse to drive for them to activate.

It only comes on automatically when going from R to 1. I do use it almost everytime I pull into a parking spot or when pulling into my garage. I just hit the little video icon when going under 5 and it turns it on, but it has to be done manually.

That seems *** backwards to me. Going from R to 1 would be conducive to pulling out of a parking spot not pulling into one

My 2015 does not have the front camera. I would like to have it to assist pulling into parking spaces to avoid touching a high curb. Sounds like the option must be turned on to work unless you are shifting forward from backing. Front camera should come on when forward speed is 5 mph or less.

While annoying it soet od makes sense, as it would be flipping back and forth in stop and go traffic.

Yes this is the reason. It would be annoying to have the camera's flip on and off all the time in slow traffic.

Traffic lights, stops signs, yield signs, cop pulling you over, etc etc etc

Though would be cool if it had a sensor on it that identifies protruding objects under 8" tall from the ground like curbs, speed humps, etc.

That does make sense. Would be nice if there was dedicated button on the dash for it.

Navtool will give you a front camera. It will display on your NAV screen. It also comes on rev/1st or manually on at your command. My 2014 has it and it is great at protecting the front low hanging stuff on my car. Perfect solution for the 14s and 15s that don't have a front camera.

Just a suggestion...

...However, that's the way it works and you have to get use to it. I wonder what made the Bean Counters and engineers decide to do it that way??

There is...the little camera icon on the infotainment screen turns them on.

I moved the Camera Icon to the page I have on most of the time for easy access.
Tried the reverse to drive, but that's annoying

You can change the icons on your home screen to have it located easily there. Like say take off the weather icon, and add the park assist camera icon instead.

In Michigan the weather app isn't reliable anyway!

It's set to come on R to 1 so when you're parallel parking, front view comes on automatically. Back in with the rear camera on, then pull forward with the front view. Simple.

It's because in parallel parking you go in *** first then pull forward. That's the "most common" way to use them.

I have the camera button on my "taskbar" (the buttons always on top), so I can hit it when I pull into parking spots.

BTW, it's only active under 8 kph (5 MPH).
