New tires scrape wheel well on Z51
so got new tires , went with bf goodrich g force comps. comps are great but the rear instead of being 285/30/20 (they don't make it ) got 285/35/20. when driving car let's say on the highway and going 70mph and if there is an imperfection on the road the rear tires scrape the inner wheel well , should this be happening ? tire tech looked at the gap and said it was enough to run them with no problems , should the shop be responsible for this ? any advice is appreciated.

It seems obvious that the higher sidewall is causing the clearance issue and reason why the 35's are not being spec'ed on the car. As for liability, it depends who you purchased the tires from and how they value customer loyalty. At best they may just offer you a new set of tires in the correct size for whatever the price difference is for the correct tires. I would also change the fronts out with the same brand and model. At worst, they will tell you to pound salt. Needless to say, you will then have to take them to civil court and play the he said you said game. But consumers will always win out in civil court as the business is considered a "Professional" and should have known that the tires will rub. But in arbitration, you will get something, either just the rear tires in another brand or maybe 4 new tires with a price differential paid by you. Something they should have offered in the first place. Unpleasant as it may be, I think you should approach them to see if they will do the right thing with a polite comment of litigation if they do not address your issue. Good luck.

My tires don't rub on any road and yours shouldn't! Since they said they would be fine I would insist they are not and demand a new proper set. Yep you'll have to pay for new ones and will probably pay several hundred dollars more than the Tirerack price for the Michelins you should get.
But, whatever, you need to get them changed, IMO.

"Should this be happening?" Well, actually yes, it's pretty much what you'd expect when you let them install the wrong size tires on your car. Those numbers on the sidewall aren't there for decoration.

For fun, just checked Tirerack that had specs for both the BF Goodrich tire and the OEM Michelin. The BFG is 1.1 inches larger in diameter. Too big a difference.

OP, Did you lower the car at all? Even if you didn't, have Chevy check the height on the stock bolts, they vary right out of the factory. A minor adjustment might ease your pain.
Hope this helps.

i know what the numbers mean on the sidewall of the tire the reason i ask if this should happen is because i have ran different sizes in diameter when i had the c5 so i figured it shouldn't be a problem. the tech grabbed a tire for the size i requested to put it side by side and there was almost no difference and he said "oh you got plenty of space " but the tire wasn't a fluke goodrich since they didn't have them in stock. @rowdbike56 you're right let me check on the bolts a minor tweak will help

If the tech is the one who told you the tire will fit then I feel as if it is thier responsibility. Your not a wheel/tire tech they are. Leaving it in the hands of the professional was actually the responsible Thing to do and you should have to bare the consequences of thier mistake. I'm almost sure discount tire will make it right.

I just checked that also and the stock configuration has a difference of 0.7 inches front to rear (rear larger diameter). What you have is 2.1 inches front to rear difference. That should make the Stability Control system go nuts even if it didn't rub the fender. The tire dealer should have known this before selling you the tires.

Yes, I'm glad it turned out good for you and your car. But, if you like to experiment on your C5 and now this car, just remember that if you ask for a specific size tire, next time it may be on your dime to replace them because they rub. Just sayin'....
