Burning Brakes
The avoid first-year models notion is obsolete when it comes to modern vehicles.
In the last 10 years, we've purchased a first-year E9X M3, first-year Audi RS4, first year Cadillac ATS, first year, Jaguar F-Type, first year MB C300, and first year C7. We never had a warranty repair on any of them while we owned them.
Some would argue that manufacturers are much more worried about quality control at introduction, and complacency sets in over time.

No problems
No problems at 30,000 miles. The C7 is the second "first model year" car. The first was 2010 Camaro delivered May 2009. I just purchased a Miata RF (Retractable Fastback) which is also the first year for this model. A thousand miles later, it too has no problems.
All three plus others are still in my "stable".
I personally think first model year cars are more carefully scrutinized than later years...

My 14 Z51 vert was a really great car. No issues other than the battery went bad at the two year mark and was replaced for free. We all had the airbag recall and that was it. And the 14's came with a longer warranty period than the rest of them. 5 years, 60k miles. I sold mine with 10k miles on it a few months ago and bought a yellow Z06 which I love but that 14 was/is a beauty!

Manufacturers only run a body style so long. Buying at the end of the run of a body style sees the most depreciation typically. The downside to buying the first year of a body style is you miss out on all the upgrades that are standard and added each progressive year to help encourage sales.
I say buy the first year all the time and enjoy the vehicle by driving it like it was designed instead of leaving it in a garage like its a treasure. In ten years its all moot except those who drove them got to enjoy them, and those who garaged em lost almost the same amount of money on resale but never got to enjoy the engineering of the car. My two cents....

I'm not as brave as most of you here. I purchased the 2014 used in 2016. By then, we all knew it was a winner. Still, no issues here. The Vette has been perfect.
My first Vette was a late in the run 69. I purchased it despite the nightmare stories about the 68. One of my friends didn't listen to the warnings and purchased a used 68 instead of a new C3. While heading south on the Garden State Parkway, the dashboard burst into flames. He escaped with minor burns and some bruising from the crash that followed. I'm not aware that any first year Corvette was even close to the problem plagued 68.

Will you buy another "first rounder"?
For the most part my car has been problem/glitch free. The typical infotainment screen flicker (loose connection), low diff fluid and that's about it, flawless other than those two minor issues. So the myth about first model year problems, in my case was just that, a myth. My only beef is the options that came the next year '15, PDR, 8 speed auto (although mine's a 7MN), etc.
So I guess the only thing to consider is what will be introduced the following year after the debut of the C8. Quality wise, no question, I'm not afraid to buy a first year but next time I just may wait to see what the following year will bring as far as updates.

Would appear to my you were better NOT having the 8 speed auto and you can by a small camera seconder for $50, lots around (agreed not integrated with the car functions.)
There are always new featured added every year so if you feel you "have to have them" must buy a new one every year!

I purchased my 2014 Stingray Convertible in March 2014. My car did have some bad leather seat material (the laminate separated) that was replaced under warranty. Other than that just recalls, no other problems. Just traded on a 2017 Stingray Convertible, same options just model year upgrades. I really like Apple CarPlay.

Question for fellow '14 owners:
Purchased my 14 vert in November 14 and have had no issues at all. Although with only 4200 miles maybe the bugs have not surfaced yet. That is what happens up North when it's off the road for 6 months, three years old and still a baby.

As long as it has the same options, I wouldn't mind.
New models extra functions isn't a must for me.

Love, love, love my C7! Mine was one of the first 1,500 off the line. 22,000 miles later-I'd do it all over again!
