I put a front splitter on my car last week and didn't reinstall the three rubber pieces under the front bumper. I haven't heard the dreaded scrape once since then. Everytime I pulled out of the driveway, into the parking lot at work, out of the shopping center, or anywhere else with a dip it would always scrape. Much better without the air dam always catching on something. If your sick of the dreaded scraping noise pull them off. I really don't think they serve much of a purpose. I've had the car up to 85-90mph and haven't noticed any difference in performance or gas mileage as is supposed to be the reason for them being there.
I just installed the C7 Carbon Z06 Stage 2 splitter a few weeks back and scraped the **** out of the bottom of it this past weekend. But can only see it from underneath so no big deal. I've driven slammed cars for almost my whole life but it still happens, even though i'm careful and know how to take inclines.
I'll rock it until i destroy it, then buy another.

on both a previous C5 and C6 nd was told by those in the know that they are important for funneling air for cooling but as long as I didn't track the car it would be fine.....I don't have the problem with my C7 (geez, my '12 GS would scrape even when it wasn't moving......don't miss that aspect...

We can help! ProTEKt skidplates are now available for your stage 2/3 Aero equipped Corvette.
We are super happy with this kit, as I think it is the best fitting kid we have done, and the installation is far easier than any kit we have made.
there is no drilling, tape or glues required. just remove a few factory bolts, place the plates, and secure them by putting the factory bolts right back in! I think I can do the install in less than 10 minutes.
I use the car as it was designed to be used so the air dams are in place and will be replaced when I wear them out. However, the front splitter was getting terribly abused driving in and out of driveways and up on my trailer and that unlike the air dam isn't some cheap piece of rubber it costs $2,000. So, I bought the Protekt skid plates noted above. Great solution. My splitter is a little ragged in a couple of spots that always seemed to be hitting but with the skid plates it won't get any worse since they are taking the abuse.

Thanks Bill!
Glad you like them. as the product inventor and designer, it is pretty satisfying to see that folks are happy with them.
Actually, this is a relief to know. Mine is new and I cringed at the couple of times I've scraped even as I was trying to be careful. If it's just that piece of rubber I feel a lot better about it.

If you think that "minor noise" is an issue wait until you hit the next lowest thing hits, what GM calls a Radiator Support and most call it a "Skid Pad," it performs both functions.
I hit and dented in my C6 "Skid Pads," so installed FANG protectors on my 2014 C7 and hit those a few times-no damage. They are a Forum Vendor: http://www.saccitycorvette.com/
The rubber air dams are designed to bend. In addition to reducing air drag (that is why GM installed) they are a great "curb feeler" and provide an early warning!" The aluminum Skid Pads are not designed to bend they only dent or break! The assembly can be replaced but not cheap!
The aluminum on pavement is a terrible noise-makes the scraping air dam noise sound like music!

I just put a cleaver product under my Stage 2 Splitter. Talked to the owner of the company who said NASCAR teams are ordering. Simple to install.
This is a PDF of my install last weekend on my Grand Sport. It's at the end of my Stage 3 winglet install PDF. Had most of the bottom screws out anyway!
This is one of the pics in the PDF.
Note, you can see the right side black painted "Skid Pad" hanging down (left side of pic.). It is well below the bottom of the splitter plastic undertray. It's aluminum and can only dent or break! It's the next lowest thing next to the rubber air dams. That aluminum on pavement really sounds terrible.
Called Splitter Guard Washers. They fit under the many Torx Screws on a Stage 2 Spltter bottom section. The kit includes new Torx head screws that fit inside the steel cone washers. Company owner said NASCAR teams are purchasing!

They are not only just plastic, they are designed to bend! For my C6 and 2014 C7 (I just sold) I just sanded off the bottom edge a few times in many years of ownership. They are cheap to replace but I never had to do that. My C6 hit every time I pulled out of the driveway!
They key for the C7 is they provide and early warning that the next lowest thing to hit are the "skid pads." See post above. That aluminum on pavement makes the rubber air dam sound like music!
For your info, the Chevy Volt has an air dam about as low as the Vette. GM says in extends the cars driving range! Not many Volts going over ~100 mph when the increased downforce becomes a factor!
Mine has been scraping coming down my driveway on the lip of the front splitter. Scuffs every time even cutting the wheel and rolling back sideways. Its not terrible, just minor scrap everytime. stage 1 z06. I suspect a 1/2 inch more clearance would do the trick.

Was asked about the vendor of the Splitter Guard Washers. Info is in the PDF. They are not a Forum vendor have to find them on the net, AL1 Addons. .
