Thanks everyone for your responses. I started this thread because GM was offering a discount or reduced financing on a "Base Stingray". I just checked all their discounts and they apply to all Vettes (2016-17) except the GS (they did list the Z51 as a specific model).
On here, I think most refer to a "Base" Stingray as a car with the standard soft springs and shocks suspension without FE2 ( Mag Ride) or Z51(stiffer springs & Shocks, Dry Sump etc) that may also include another option MRC ( magnetic shocks, PTM etc).
The fun part is, who'd a thunk just the simple SUSPENSION designation would cause such a panties in a wad issue. It's a great thing that GM provides a nice selection of ways to have a range of suspension choices and not one size fits all. You want nice Caddy style compliant ride, the base is perfect and as all the base lovers are quick to point out, will go around corners virtually as good on the street as the "Performance" upgrades. Then as one desires, you can start going up the ladder with stiffer springs/shocks and/or more advanced mag ride add ons to include wide body kits with wider wheels and tires etc of the GS and Z06.
For the most part I agree with your post BUT to compare a base (non Z51) to a Caddy style compliant ride is just wrong. To compare it to car with magnetic ride set on the softest setting would be more accurate.

I agree with your thinking. I tend to use the Caddy analogy to emphasize the ability of the base suspension to better absorb the bumps, pot holes, broken pavement etc of the roads that many of us spend some time driving on. There is a trade off for that smoother ride that has a lot to do with the softer springs, resulting in less responsive turn in amongst other things. My Caddy CTS-V I just traded in on my Z51/mag ride Stingray had a stock beautifully dialed in mag ride suspension that is more compliant than my Stingray, but that's not the typical "Caddy" ride one thinks of.
