I did a search and was unable to get an answer, so I hope someone can help.
Has anyone had this problem: When listening to a playlist the songs don't always advance. When this happens I have to disconnect the iPod and reconnect. It will work fine until I shut of the car. After a restart I get the same problem. Albums advance with no problems.
I had this iPod in my ATS for three years without a hiccup. Any ideas besides use a thumb drive?
Thanks,
I had a similar problem early on, but the car would not recognize the iPod at all--taking out the USB and replacing would fix this too.
I happened to have an earlier iPod touch, one with the previous style docking connector (not the Lightning), and that has been working fine. So if you have one sitting around you might give this a try.
My iPod is flaky as hell. It glitches all the time during playback. When I start the car it starts at the top of whatever playlist I happened to be playing when I turned the car off. That's the new 6th gen iPod touch. The old classic iPod, with a physical hard drive, works better but still glitches on occasion but it works fairly well. The only problem I have with it on a regular basis is that i crackles and pops over the speakers. I think that happens when the HDD is searching for something. Anyway, if there is a TSB to address this I'm going to ask the dealer to install it. Failing that, it sounds like the thumb drive may be the way to go.
Guys, I guess you didn't read all of my post. I said "Besides the thumb drive ".
My iPod also has issues. When I pick a song using the steering wheel controls it won't play. And the menus for podcasts always show programs that have been erased. You can always use a digital audio player such as the ones made by Astell&Kern using the line level output going into the Auxiliary jack in the center console, but you won't have steering wheel control.
I'm having the same issue. It will advance to the next song, but will not start actually playing it until I hit pause and then play, or advance to the next song and then go back. Essentially only plays one song at a time. I have an older iPod that won't work at all.
I hear a lot of folks talking about thumb drives. If all my music is on the iPod, how do I get it on a thumb drive? (Obviously I am not a tech nerd)

If, like me, you are on a Mac at home, a cheap desktop app called "Export for Itunes" makes this REALLY easy. It finds both your albums and your playlists, then you just click the ones you want and it exports them to a flash drive--even includes the artwork! One downside which was annoying but something I can live with is that you can't export DRM protected songs. But not that many of my songs are anyway. I would think there is a PC alternative app to do this too.
I think it will take me years to figure out the interaction of MyLink and Apple devices! Funny, you would think it would be plug and play by now. I have had playlists randomized, added, ignored, etc. My theories and observations . . .
1. If the car would just play from the device instead of trying to index everything life would be great. Indexing finds that the same song might be on two devices, or on two playlists on one device. This, in turn, results in repeated plays on occasion.
2. Voice recognition really throws things into disarray. Finds multiple locations for a requested album, and, in my case, mixes them all up.
3. thumb drive better but not infallible. Indexing can still cause repeats if the song is in multiple folders (e.g., by Album and in a Playlist)
Workarounds: using my iPhone and Car Play works fine. But first I make sure to unplug my iPod so that indexing does not take over. Vice versa, my iPod has been working pretty well as long as I don't have my iPhone plugged into CarPlay at the same time. And I don't search by voice recognition any more!
My only problem using a flash drive is that if the same song is in different folder, for example, in an Album and a Playlist, it can end up playing twice in a row. Any ideas?
Might have to change mine. Every time I restart the car it goes all the way back to the top
My iPod classic does that once in a blue moon but I get popping over the speakers sometimes too. I think that's the hard drive creating noise. My new iPod touch always jumps to the top of whatever playlist I was in when I shut the car off. Works fine in my other vehicles. Really frustrating.
when I skip songs manually on my phone i have to tap the media button to aux then back to bluetooth to get it to continue playing....kicker is im on android.
