John,
A little over a year ago I traded my 2004 A4 coupe for a 2014, Z51, 2LT M7 w/MRC. It's a MAJOR upgrade. I miss the C5, but the C7 is so advanced. You'll love the rev match feature.
I've had no problems whatsoever. Very reliable car. I'd say go for it.

I have a 2001 coupe I have really like owning. I have had it about to years. It had 46K on the clock. I am lusting over a used 2015 Z51 LT3 coupe with less than 6K on the odometer. Will I be taking a Hugh risk trading up to a C7?
Thanks for the reply Flame Red. I am looking at a C7 Z51 LT3 with 7 speed manual.

That is the way to go. Forget the A8. If you did have a problem with the A8 torque converter you would not want to keep it after you see what the repair is like. Parts all over the shop.
Consumer Reports lists it as a recommended vehicle of average reliability. In my book a sports car that hits average when competing with Camry, Lexus etc. is a great buy.
We sold our 2004 for a new 2017 stingray. Our 04' was in the guaranteed to fail since our VIN showed it had the fuel cross over pipe issue, never did show up. Every point of the C7 is leaps and bounds over the C5. More comfortable ride, easier steering, better brakes, extra 115hp is not bad either. Seats are much more supportive. My wife who really enjoyed the C5 was missing it after we sold it. One ride in the C7 6 weeks later and she was in love again. You'll both love it!!
I just upgraded from an '03 Z06 to a '17 GS a month ago, after 7 years of being in the C5. I don't regret it whatsoever. It's like a whole different class of car. My ONLY complaint so far is that the C7 cabin is a lot more cramped compared to a C5. I'm 6'3", but a slender build, so the legroom is the only thing that is bothersome for me. People with bigger frames might find this to be a huge turnoff. I actually have a good friend that wants to upgrade from his C5, but couldn't handle how constricting the C7 was for him. Food for thought, in case you haven't been in one yet.
I had an 01 and loved it and should have kept it. I ordered a 16 stingray and lemon lawed it after 4k miles and now have a 17 GS. Like the C7 but like others have said the TC and my rear end pinion gear issue has caused me to think about my decision to upgrade. C5 has a lot more room in the cabin and cargo area. C5 and C6 tranny and TC are bullit proof. Good luck

in terms of reliability, nope it will serve you well, now it is a somewhat more complicated vehicle and that my cause an increase in repair/ replacement costs but the heart of it is a solid piece of auto engineering
I get it John. My wife was the same way about our C6. But, with just one ride in the C7 she was ready. I think your Madeleine will come around.
John I had a 2000 c5 convertible which my wife loved. upgraded to a c7 coupe z51 3lt and shes more in love with this car. would highly recommend the upgrade.

Thanks for the spine stiffening. I think I am close. Still bringing my wife along. She love our 01.
I think you're fine with the M7, but I wouldn't recommend a 2015 A8 to anyone. You may not have trouble, but if you do you're looking at a tranny pull (maybe more than one) and two days in the shop, with hopes the techs get everything right without adding a few scratches and dings in the process. I went through the TC issues for two years and ultimately got it fixed, but still had delayed engagement issues--not related to the TC but not uncommon for that year. Other than the A8 and one leaky shock, the car was a jewel.
If you can find a good 2016 at a good price it might be worth the extra money. In 2016 they added the motorized hatch closure and front cameras, both of which are useful upgrades, IMO. On my 2015 I could not close the hatch unless a door or window was open, and that was a big irritation.
Keep them both, I did. I still enjoy driving my C5.

Dealer serioulsy insulted me with a trade value on my '01, so I kept it.
There are many things about it I still like, done a few mods I should have done when it was my DD, and its also my "too cold for the summer only C7 tires and I dont feel like drving an automatic" toy.
And if my GF is ever motivated enough to learn to drive a clutch, she'll have a pop top shes always wanted
my C6 only had 28,800 miles, loved that car - made the move and love this one more and more - use it more also (purchased getting ready for retirement so I can use it even more)

Just sold my September 2013 built Z51. It was back to the dealer twice, once when I got it an GM requested I have the dif fluid level checked. I watched as a newly trained C7 tech checked. It was fine. The 2nd time was recently for the seat belt software update!
Only hope my Grand Sport on order will be as good!
