I hate to say it but ALLOT of GM A8's (trucks , cars) have the same stuff happening to their A8 tranny's.....reminds me of Samsung recalls without the fire!
I know but I went back to see what it was. They complain about different stuff along with getting a re flash at the dealers. Some were TC's thumping and all. Getting new TC's WITHOUT any problems afterwards. I just want to help plus my girlfriend keeps mentioning how much see would like to drive an automatic...

2fastnow, maybe you should read YOUR post #8 on the first page.

The key to this puzzle is for all of you tech/motor heads out there is to figure out what does the C7/A8 have different than any happy go lucky Silverado A8, Camaro A8 etc. Their numbers are way higher with no big problems.
I think it's electron more than TC exchanges. Others here have said the same thing. Problems still lerking AFTER a new TC put in. I don't believe the tranny is ONLY bad in Vettes but OK in other GM vehicles!
It's got to be a gizmo glitch.
I have a 2015 GMC CC Denali with 6.2 A8 and 4 cylinder eco, so I'm on the GM trucks site as much as here and see as many treads on there about the shudder and other problems that generate the same type of hate the A8 threads. At about 1,500 miles I had a down shift problem, slam downshifted 2-1 especially when going slow. They did a re program etc. and it is still fine at 18k miles.

You could be right but I put into the average of people who don't complain on forums and the back and forth of discussion makes it look like a huge amount when it's really less. The best way I found it to find when they first started using the Diff/A8 on some other car lets say a 05 GTO. That car had the same diff... so now 12 years later...almost nothing in complaints of blown rears. Lots of noise, but no blown out forum story entries.
My 2015 vert gave me some of the same issuses. The little sudder and then the RPM changes of about 100 to 200 RMP back and forth. I brought it in and the dealer change out the TC. It has been like a different car since. Before I was alway listening and watching but now I drive and just enjoy. It has made a world of difference. Hope you get yours taken care of and enjoy as well.
It is possible maybe probable we are combining 2 separate issues. One is a failing TC due to a leaking oil seal and the other is normal but seemingly abnormal issue of the car going from V8 to V4 mode with V4 mode having the TC open and close its lockup as a balance solution.
If your TC is going to fail you likely will know it and it will exhibit symptoms much greater than +/- 60 or 100 rpm fluctuations.
If the slight fluctuations in rpm due to V4 mode bother you than get a Range Tech AFM disabler or use M. I did both. And now exclusively use M mode in my car. So if somebody wants to try the Range solution pm me. I will sell mine to you so you can try it inexpensively.
