Power hatch pull down?

As for hatch closing I usually leave the door unlatched or if I just walk up to the car to put something in the back I will throw down hard and a lot of times it will latch. Sometimes I just lower the hatch and then use the back side of my hand to push it slowly closed. Been doing that ever since I got my 97 20 years ago next week.

It has to be close to fully closed for the power pull down to activate. Try gently pushing down once it has stopped short of closing and you should hear the power pull down activating.

PS: Has nothing to do with strength as I was often accused! Do 3 sets of 10 pull-ups on back day and two different sets (6 total) of 10 tricep push downs (one with 70 pounds) on arm/chest day in my 7 day a week exercise routine!

Be careful about slamming or worse pushing on the bottom hatch frame to latch. A number of reports with 2014/15's of paint cracking and several with the lower hatch frame cracking from pushing to latch. First time I tried saw the hatch frame bend excessively so stoped and if I forgot to leave a door open would open the door, open the hatch and get it latch with the door open. No big deal, good short term memory training! .

With the door open it closes and latches with little force using the handhold on the right side of the hatch! The power of small pressure differences!

Nope. Several looked into it and in addition to the hardware it would require programming one of the computers
One fellow said he could do that and got the electrical prints. Gave up.
As I said, lived with it for 3 1/2 years with my September 2013 built C7. Soon became 2nd nature to shut the door after the hatch. In fact when I sold it a few months ago, showed the new owner you could stand behide an open driver's door and with one finger close the fully opened hatch and it closed and latched with little force. Using the GM handhold you could slam as hard as possible and it would not latch!
In fact even with my Grand Sport with doors and windows closed must push slightly to have the motor catch the latch. With the door open and modest closing force using the GM handhold, it closes and the motor catches without a push.
The power of small pressure differences on that large area!
If you think about when you get in the hatch, you are usually leaving the car or getting in after putting something in the rear. I just learned to close the door last-no big deal. Yep, if putting in groceries have to open the door anyway, just do it first, put stuff in hatch, close hatch, get in. Works with little wasted effort!
