Just noticed on my OnStar account that they have been recording my excelleration, braking and speed. This will be my last year with OnStar! I don't need OnStar or my insurance company monitoring my driving. I'm 68 years old and on my fourth Corvette. No accidents or speeding tickets! Just an FYI !!!
And if you go onto your OnStar account, (OnStar.com) that's where you can see the data. Probably better just to go there. An example of what it looks like is below.
I kind of look at it like a challenge. If my hard acceleration is going down, then maybe I need to turn in my keys

Details, please? I didn't see any such thing on my OnStar account.
Certainly, they have the ability to do so, but actually recording it for EVERY SUBSCRIBER, just because they can? OnStar has literally multiple MILLIONS of subscribers -- do you think they record all that GPS info, on each of those millions of cars, minute by minute, mile-by-mile, day-after-day, year-after-year... who is paying for all that storage? Do you have any idea what size dataset that would be, and how much the compute would cost to catalog and store that massive amount of data? And for what financial return?
And, NO, OnStar cannot just unilaterally decide to "share" your driving information with your insurance company -- you have to explicitly give them permission to do so (or they have to have a judge-signed court order to do it secretly). An example: if you agreed to share the OnStar info with the insurance company to get a discounted monthly OnStar price. (kind of like how Progressive Ins offers you a GPS monitor to plug into your car for a discounted insurance rate)

It's called OnStar smart driver and you can opt-out if that specific piece if you want.
You go your Chevy account on your computer (Chevrolet Owner Center) I find that interface a little better) then you choose OnStar on the left menu and My OnStar Services. From there, choose Vehicle Manager and in that you'll see OnStar Smart Driver and it will say if it is Active or not. You can click on that and choose to disable it.
You can also turn off the Insurance Discounts Eligibility there.

Not really. It's a choice thing, and the OP apparently didn't realize he opted in.
Most insurance companies these days offer customers the option of having a module plugged into the OBDII port for several months in exchange for a discount. You get a discount just by participating, and the tamer you drive the bigger the discount.

I assume this info is recorded for active accounts only?

YIKES!
This is the kind of thing an insurance company can use to deny a claim or GM to deny a warranty issue.
You don't "opt in" you are in unless you opt out, at least I was.
I don't remember opting out of this program and I just checked my account and I'm not enrolled.
There was actually a thing in the news about 5-6 years ago with GM trying to do this to all vehicles equipped with OnStar. I remember I had my 2008 Pontiac G8 at the time and promptly unplugged the OnStar module.

exactly! or create insurance companies / plans to only insure "monitored" motorist and everyone else is considered high risk. No matter how you slice it, this is a really, really terrible idea.
