Paint - I hope GM gets it right with the new paint shop
I have a 2014 Laguna Blue C7; the pair is ok, but I do see orange peel and just learned to accept it. It's not real bad, but certainly should be better. I know there have been many posts around this topic.
Last week I took delivery of a new Acura MDX and can honestly say it has the best paint I have ever seen. It's a silver metallic and flawless. The car was built in Alabama so the old adage of "imports have better quality" is baloney.
I love my corvette and perhaps will will upgrade to a C8 someday; in the meantime, I hope GM gets the paint issues fixed . I know the US and especially GM can compete or best anyone.

The paint on my wife's 2009 Lexus RX350 was flawless when we took delivery about 8 years ago and still is today other than a few parking lot dings. It was built in Canada. My 2016 BMW 5 series has about as much OP as my C7. I hope the new paint shop at BG makes a difference. Time will tell.

Melting Slicks
I have a feeling that the orange peel is by design to help hide flaws in the SMC panels.
I did wet sand and buff the doors and rear fenders. I didn't try to totally eliminate the orange peel just knock it down to an acceptable level. Maybe got rid of 90% using 2000 grit on a hard foam block. Looks much better now.
