How messed up is this?
My car is black with ceramic coating. I keep it pretty clean. Fingerprints make me crazy. So...when I have to open/close the fuel door or hatch, I use a microfiber towel. When closing the door, I use the silver ring thingy on the end of the door. My wife and kids know how to enter and exit the car without leaving fingerprints, but NO ONE else has a clue (not even my colleague with a black M3!), so I end up opening and closing the door for them when they exit and enter my car -- young, old, male, female. Sometimes that's too weird and I just let the fingerprints happen -- on the door, on the passenger window, even on the roof. Of course, the whole car then has to be washed asap.
Anyhoo, rate how messed up that is on a scale of 3 to 4, where A = "I'm messed up, too, so this all sounds totally normal" and B = "That is seriously messed up".
Thank you.

Really, really messed up. Off the scale of messuppedness.
Messed up rating system, too, when the range is 3 to 4 but the options to select are A...B...

I vote 'B'.

I'm not quite as messed up as you, but I do use the silver latch hoop to close the doors, and a shirt covered elbow to close the fuel door and vert trunk. Microfiber, no.

I'm the same way. When I close the hatch I pull it down hard enough so I don't have to touch the top and I touch the edge of the glass when I close my doors. I close the fuel door with the knuckle of my bent finger.
I believe it's contagious, because my middle son is the same way with his car.

You need help LOL I hate finger prints too and often will wipe them off with a micro fiber towel but I don't freak out when prints get on the car nor do I wear white gloves. Oh yeah I also have a windshield fetish... can't stand a dirty windshield! I found the perfect window towel cleaner that only uses water!

Agreed. However, I've on 10's of cars since my first new car out of high school, a 1977 Corolla, and even a Chevy Lumina Mini Van when the boys still lived at home. I treated every vehicle the same way. There are worse behavior issues I suppose.

I have a black C7 too...and fingerprints are much a part of life as dust. But don't beat yourself up over wanting YOUR car to look nice. That's what you're supposed to do, not the other way around. You're not messed up, you're a C7 owner...

Yeah, I think a lot of this is a black car thing. I don't do the things mentioned in this thread on white, silver, or any lighter covered car. Black does make you a little crazy, but it does look amazing when detailed.

Definitely a B, for myself all that worry over stupid finger prints takes away from just enjoying the car. Plus it gives others the impression you are a nut case.

I thought I was OCD, but I just let the fingerprints happen and do some maintenance when I notice the fingerprints, which is probably not as often as the OP since my car is TR. I spray some Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer in those locations, then wipe them with a microfiber cloth. Both are at the ready in my garage for quick access.
Hadn't considered the hinge catch on the door or using my elbow for the fuel door. The latter wouldn't work for me since most of the year I wear a short-sleeved shirt in S. LA. For others in moderate climates, consider keeping a small cloth in the car to close the fuel door.

There is no worry, no fingerprints or grease marks. Doesn't hurt enjoyment at all, you just learn to do things a little differently. With regard to the nut case part, is there a problem with that?
