Over ride the auto lock by pressing the unlock button, it will chirp and the door will not lock

You don't have to walk away to have it lock, you only have to be outside the steering column antenna range, which is approximately the perimeter of the car (not including the trunk/cargo/hood area) for it to lock. There is a delay after it checks when the door closes, and it checks again (to see that the fob has indeed left), then it locks.

That's why it may chirp three times indicating a fob is close enough to be recognized when the door closes (if enabled), and still lock when you exit.

I like not having to fumble with keys in my pocket or purse so much, that I got a keypad for my house doors in 2005.

If your car is in the garage, just pop the trunk/hatch when exiting, and it will not auto lock the doors no matter how many times you open or close the doors even with auto lock enabled. You can even close the trunk/hatch after the car times out (~30 min), and the doors will remain unlocked until you open and close a door (initializing the auto lock sequence if enabled).

I love the auto lock feature. If you need something out of the car there is always the app on your phone if it's with you.

I have Auto lock activated.
And when home in the garage, I open the door and hold the unlock button until it chimes 3 times.
Stays unlocked and can enter and leave the car numerous times without the fob.
I'll do that with a passenger in the car if I run into a store or whatever for a short time.
Putting it in Accessory or Ignition mode, or starting the car, activates Auto lock again.

Who exactly are you asking this question of? It's unclear. As for me, not I don't sleep with them. Then again all I said was I keep it in my pocket. Psst! I also don't sleep in my jeans...

Do you likewise find having to manually flush a public urinal a "positive experience"?!? Not me. When that happens to me I must admit I shake my head begrudgingly and flush manually. Well not really, but I do find the convenience of not having to flush a "positive experience" and having to flush a less than positive experience - YMMV.

The other thing about autolock that is good is that there are more times when my car is locked than if I didn't have autolock. For exampe, pull off the side of the road to a 7-11, jump in to get a cold drink and perhaps a snack - if I have to hit the lock button chances are I'll forget or think "I'm just jumping in and out of this 7-11 - no need to hit the lock button" and my car will not be locked. With autolock, however, the car would be locked and I would be net safer than before. Where's the downside? I know, lock your fob in the car. As discussed there's lots of stuff to prevent that and ways to deal with it. You can use the "beep so I know you're locked" method too but after having this with my 2008 and getting used to it, as somebody here once said - trust your car - it works!

Did you ever discuss this with the neighbor and explain to him what a dick he was?
