I hope you didn't bend that beautiful wheel Walt. And, it's good you ordered a new tire.

Indeed, me too. If I recall correctly from the pictures of the stampings the OP has posted, those are rotary forged wheels. It would be very hard to bend one, but I'd get it checked anyway.

As soon as they spin it on the balance machine I'll know if it's bent.

Glad you were able to get a replacement tire. Better safe than sorry.

It actually doesn't take a very deep pot hole with these low profile tires. I ruined a tire on one with only 1200 miles on my car. Thank goodness the Z51 rims are tough.

I ruined a tire (held air) hitting a curb turning out of my work parking garage garage, trying to miss a pile of dirt in the street. Wish I had hit the dirt pile. In any event replaced the tire (car had about 5,000 miles on it) and now at 11,000 I'm thinking of replacing my tires--getting squirrelly. And I typically replace in sets of 4. Probably will keep the front tire that has only 5,000 miles on it for 'insurance'.

In Texas you cannot pass vehicle inspection with any type of cut or split in a sidewall. And even without that, what price you going to put on your personal safety. When I'm driving hard (which is all the time) I don't want to worry about a damaged tire failing.

Have to agree. I never hit anything earth shattering but do I remember a couple of "Oh $hits". And when you look at the damage, it's really very small compared to other's I've seen.

In my case did not purschase anything from Discount Tire, just the warranty for my new Grand Sport tires for $260. I had checked with Firestone and they wanted $325 for the same warrenty on my new car tires.

.

These roads in Pennsylvania suck. I travel 76, 78, 81, 83, 222, 422, 476 what does Penn Dot do all day? A friend of mine blew out a front tire on his 04 Corvette getting off the Schuylkill at City ave last week. I blew a tire last year on 422 by the Oaks exit hit a hole that was a foot wide and a foot deep filled with water. There is no reason they are not out there repairing these holes. The highest gas tax in the country with the worst highway system!!!

Western PA section of 76 going to Pittsburgh used to be the worst. Now, it's "just" all over the state, including high tolls.

Good move W.W., can't be ridin' on a bubble. To those who don't have tire and wheel insurance, get it, especially if you live where it snows in winter. The potholes are there in March and April.

I've had some pretty major damage done to my side walls, and I would never want to leave a wound like like unaddressed. I've seen what can happen.

Glad to hear Walt dealt with this ASAP.

Ed, if PA is like North Carolina, and I'm sure they are. They spend nearly all the money building new roads, and forget about the existing roads. They then increase the road tax, but keep right on building new roads. I do love how the Government (big, or little) works.

Very true, the little ones just want to a) get bigger, or b) imitate the big ones in their spending routine and lack of maintenance of existing roads. That is, unless the money HAS to be spent because it's coming from national resources which means only fair-to-good roads will get the money, aka roads that really didn't need it anyway.

Especially when it involves the side wall of a tire !! I had a small cut in tread and I used glue to hold it in place and eventually replaced all my tires ( not my Vette ) with Discount tire giving me money toward a new set of tires due to a mileage warranty !!! Wayne
