What a beautiful day it was at COTA today. I'm glad I made a last minute decision to run out there. I love the smaller crowds and the pit access that goes with sports car racing. The Chevrolet tent with the cut-away Corvette was really neat.

My only disappointment, other than one of the Corvettes getting smashed in the first corner, was that it wasn't run in conjunction with the WEC. They did a race previously that combined IMSA and WEC and it was the best motor sports even I ever attended. They ran into the night which was awesome seeing the headlights, fire, and glowing brakes. The WEC does come to COTA in September and I may come back out for that if it isn't super hot.

Yes, but the C7 team was incredibly lucky. It was a very ugly race in the GTLM class.

The crazy wreck caused by the FGT on lap 1 eliminated most of the serious GTLM competition, with the #3 C7R, one Porsche, and the two BMWs the only real contenders left. The two FGTs, the only competitive Ferrari, a Porsche RSR, and the #4 C7R were out of it on the first lap, later came back and ran, but were many laps down. The BMWs, after leading much of the race, later self-destructed in the pits, and a GTD Lexus took out the remaining GTLM Porsche later.

Lucky, lucky, lucky . . . but that's racing.

Exactly, if not for that 60 second penalty for BMW who knows what might have happened

Yep! The BOP adjustment before this race really helped BMW. They were very fast today, as well as in qualifying, but made stupid mistakes.
