Yes, the seller is not well informed. You have a 100% guarantee that Z51 wheels will fit your car. Again, and for the 3rd time, those same wheels come as an option on base cars if ordered that way.
Z51s have bigger brakes, so need larger wheels than the base car to clear the calipers. You can't put base wheels on a Z51, but you can put Z51 wheels on the base with smaller brakes.

The functional reason for the wide-body GS and Z06 is to accommodate wider tires.
Yes, the Z51 wheels/tires will fit on the base Stingray. You'll just need larger tires on the 19"/20" setup. I did mine in February, and love the upgrade.
