Default shipping question

What should I expect to pay for shipping from one of the big dealers in the Northeast to the Dallas area?

Thanks

I think covered shipping is $1.50-2 a mile. I think.

Any of those dealers should be able to give you a solid quote though.

The shippers will be happy to give you a quote. Most of them will do it online. I got a quote for an enclosed truck from Nashua, NH to LA, .CA of $2200.00. Not cheap, but if you save a lot of money buying on the East Coast, it is worth it.

I am in the process of having a Grand Sport shipped from Florida to Nevada. Approx. 2700 miles. I used Montway and paid $1479.00. A good deal compared to other shippers. The car will be here tomorrow. I will write a thread on my experience when the car arrives, but so far very happy with the process.

Ask your dealer. Use a quality shipper. DO NOT use a "broker." Those guys have poor quality trucks, and poor quality skills. They'll send anybody. Somebody like Plycar will do a good job. Look at the reviews on places like Yelp.

I appreciate the feedback. I'd much prefer to buy local, but it seems that if the deal is right, I will be buying out of state. If I could work a deal June or July I could buy from anyone and just fly and drive back. From August through May, I'm just too busy.

Just finalized paperwork and mailed back to Kerbeck.

Plycar is charging me $1600 from Kerbeck to Houston....will likely be a little less to Dallas.

Intercity was more expensive, and so were the other two I called.

It truly depends on supply and demand. Are there a lot of other vehicles being shipped that route? Are there enough trucks to transport them? The time of year also makes a difference as well. There are many people who winter down south and ship their vehicles, so sometimes that can affect the price as well.
Your best option is to call and get a few quotes. You can get a free quote on our website or give one of our reps a call 847-557-0200. Good luck!

In January, we had our C6 shipped from Chicago area to Sacramento.
We used a broker (uship) and picked the bid from Montway because they had good reviews. It was a disaster.

In summary, we got bids for open and enclosed ($1200/$1600). We
selected enclosed because the car would be going through the Rockies in January, and gave them a ten day pickup window. They screwed us around on the pickup and finally admitted they didn't have any enclosed trucks and couldn't get one. Our only choice by then was an open truck or cancel our trip, so we took open. And they only offered a $200 deduction for the open truck instead of the original $400, I had to argue with them over that.
Uship was of no help in trying to get Montway or someone else to provide an enclosed truck.

As expected, the weather in the Rockies was ugly. Our car showed up two days late, covered with so much frozen mud you couldn't even tell the color. The driver used the wipers when he unloaded the car, so we got some nice scratches on the windshield.
Everything was full of sand/mud- we were scooping out handfuls of it from the cowl area. The interiors of the doors had so much mud in them that lowering a window gave that sandy grinding noise of machinery being hurt. After 5 washings, the drain holes in the door bottoms were running mud, not muddy water, with each wash. Etc.

As for Montway, their attitude was "too bad, so sad". Their "Terms of Service" took six pages when I printed them from the website, but you can summarize them into two sentences:
"We'll pick up your car when we feel like it, using whatever truck is convenient to us. We'll deliver it when we get around to it, and if anything goes wrong that's just too bad."

We finished the trip and started looking for a new C7 after we got home. As noted above, we will never ship a car again except with one of the big names that specializes in enclosed shipping. More money, but consider it as insurance against the kind of treatment we received.
