Default Performance Data Recorder with nav

The performance Data Recorder is about a 1900 dollar option.
I'm trying to decide if I want this option? Can it be that this Data
Recorder is that much better than the standard radio. Obviously
it does more than the standard radio, but 1900 dollars more?
Feedback appreciated.

I am going to assume your first post is not a troll although it sounds like it.

The PDR is a video recorder that has nothing to do with any radio. It records front camera with overlays for a racetrack, speed, rpm, throttle position, brake position, steering wheel position. If you want a built in dash cam it will also do that.

If you don't drag race or track the car it likely is of little use to you.

Yes, it is worth $1900 more although if you are ordering the car with a discount you aren't paying that much for it. You may never use it. However, having it might make the car easier to sell when you want to get rid of it. It is an option that can't be added after the car is built. The NAV unit isn't bad although it has the usual OEM problem of too few map updates years too late.

The reason I said it might make the car easier to sell when you want to get rid of it is a number of people looking at used Z06s will be considering them as potential replacements for their earlier model Track Cars. That PDR is a great option to have in the car when you take it on track. Most of those people will walk away from a car without it since there are so many to choose from that do have it.

As for daily putt putting around town it isn't used. Although if you buy a large enough SD Card above 32 GB and reformat it to the FAT32 file format you could get days worth of recording time and be able to use it as a hidden dash cam. A 32GB FAT 32 card gets you around 755 minutes of recording time.

Bill

Welcome to the forum!!!

Do you plan to track the car?? It's great for drag or roadracing.

There are other data-acquisition devices, but the PDR is really good!!

Even if you don't track it, you can take excellent video of scenic drives, or it can be used as a dash cam to take video during street driving to capture unfortunate events that might occur to help with insurance.

If you do use it to record track sessions, there's an application by Cosworth called the Toolbox that will do very good analysis of your track sessions - including lap time, G's, a bunch of stats to analyze corners, performance and health (coolant and oil temps, tire pressures and temps, etc., etc., etc).

Here's an example of a couple laps around a roadrace course, and you can see what just the video shows. Even more data is available with Toolbox:

I didn't plan to get nav or data recorder when i had my dealer find me my Stingray. I had to have certain options and those were not ones but he found a Stingray with what I wanted plus extras I wasn't really planning on. But he got me the car less than what I might have had to pay if I ordered only what i wanted. Bottom line is I am glad I got it. If nothing else than to record idiots on the road in case of accidents or to record fun scenic drives.

^ It's great as a dash cam and there's different overlays for Performance use.
The way it's listed, the option is for the PDR, but IMO it's about getting NAV.
I wanted NAV and PDR comes with it, I doubt it would be that much if the PDR was offered alone.
It's worth it to me

I disagree. I use my PDR as a dashcam. The only PITA is I have to manually turn it on.

So... just buying a PP 2015 Z51 Vert with PDR and want to use it as dash cam... is there any way to have it automatically come on and, also for a long trip... (plan on using a 64G SD) have it just keep recording (looping) without manual intervention!? I could use my F-150 dash cam but prefer to use built-in as long as it is suitable....

Thanks.....

No - you've got to turn it on every time you start the car.

Yes - but it only records for 1:40 (1hour 40 minutes) at a time (I think it's a 4GB limit), so if you drive for a period longer than that without stopping for a pit stop, set an alarm for about 1-1/2 hours to remind you to stop/restart it.

Sounds to me like the PDR is "sorta like" a dash cam..... when I go to drive my purchase home, I guess I will "borrow" the window-mounted full function dash cam from my F-150 Platinum....

The HD dash cam I have loops/wraps according to the size of SD card has GPS on mount, and comes on when power is supplied......

Now, can someone please tell me where 12v plug might be that is turned off/on with ignition.....smile....

I use it all the time, especially when driving to/from work on roads with a lot of traffic and crazy drivers.

I put the data card in the unit and performed about a half hour test that went as advertised. Have not used it since.

If you have to ask if the PDR is worth it you don't need it most likely. It was a must have for me because I like all the information it records when I point and shoot the car straight, or around curves for the G force information, etc. It is a toy I really enjoy.

If it is capable of being set to start anytime the car is started that is a new feature not present in the PDRs in the C7s. That would allow it to also be used more as a front DashCam. A cool new feature.

it will record an hours of data. if you go on a trip, you can engage this and record the trip . if there is a problem.. an accident, you have video of it.. I saw someone using this system doing just that and was stopped for speeding. the data recorder does both audio and video.. when the owners was told he was speeding ( he was not ) he told the cop that he will look at his data recorder, The cop gave him a warning.. I dont know how true this was, but if you have a problem, a car stop, you can turn it on and record anything that could be used in your defense. If you come across an alien space ship you can record it.. if a sasquatch passes in front of you, you can record it.. if you see a wreckless driver, you can record it. Only you can determine if its worth it.. if you ever track you car, it is absolutely worth it. It would have been worth it back in 1991 when I was involved and a victim of an attempted car jacking.. however I did have a Colt Python. That worked out for me.
I'm happy I have it in my C7

I use my PDR to record 18 wheelers driving in the left lane (and other unsafe acts) and email the videos to their company’s safety department.
