Noticed something cool tonight, don't know if this is well known or not. If you are going to park somewhere with the targa top removed and have something you want someone to not be able to reach in and grab, place it in the glovebox. Apparently, when the car locks, the glove box automatically locks as well. The drop down screen can still be accessed by pushing the button so that cubby is not secure. Just an FYI.
I didn't know that about the glovebox, thanks for posting. I usually use the screen with the passcode.
Yeah, that's why I was surprised. I knew about the valet locking the screen and glovebox but I just reached in to open the glovebox while car was sitting in garage and realized it wouldn't open unless I hit the car unlock button. Cool little feature.
Motion sensors let me know if anyone even sticks their hand in the car. Mine seen very sensitive.
I was at Cars & Coffee and left my windows down but locked the car. I went walking around the area and then hear an alarm going off and it was my car. Went over and there was a salesman from a local Chevy dealer putting flyers in cars about a tech-talk they were having at the dealership and when he put one in my window the alarm went off. He was surprised how sensitive it was, and he wasn't aware of this feature.....as a Corvette salesman.
1) If the top is off then the intrusion detection system is not armed. IOW you can leave your windows down or cracked on a hot day and your intrusion system is armed and will go off if somebody reaches inside. But if the top is off a switch on the top of the windshield where the top goes in is not engaged and thus the intrusion alarm system is not engaged. As was said, if it was on it's very sensitive and things like a leaf blowing in the car might set it off.
2) While you can put stuff in the secret compartment and it will remain locked, provided you leave the shifter in reverse, one need only move the shifter out of reverse to disable that lock. Of course, most thieves would not know that, that is unless they just read this. Do you want to take that chance?
I have hear that you can get one of the pins that hold the top in and put in in the hole where the motion switch is, the systems thinks the top is on and the motion system is activated with the top off.

this is correct. I just used one of those yellow electrical wire connector caps. Put it in the driver side hole where the pin switch for the top is located and it works. look out for those falling leafs when parked under a tree.

Mostly true but you can put a plug into the driver's side hole at the top of the windshield and all the alarms will set including intrusion. Sadly, the convertible can't be armed in this manner and while I can turn on the door alarm, intrusion stays off with the top down.

Anyone know if the secret compartment is locked in Park, or when the doors are locked?
Of course, getting into the car without setting off the alarm should not be easy.
From: Calgary, AB. There's a reason why white was the only color offered on every year Corvette. Proud Canadian German Jamaican!

which is all well and good but since the thieves won't have the key they can't get into it anyway and if they do have the key the contents inside the cubby hole should be the least of your worries.

The secret compartment is not locked if only the doors are locked. If you have the windows down and lock the doors you can still reach in and push the button to have the secret compartment open.
Not sure what happens in Park. I don't have a Park.

Normally you don't have to worry provided you have the FOB on you. Now if you leave the FOB say in your house and go out to reach into your car to open the secret compartment (assume you say left the windows down) you might get a surprise as the intrusion sensor goes off.

Hmmm... If you have the top off, thereby defeating the intrusion alarm, nothing really stops a thief from reaching in, moving the gear selected out of reverse and opening the secret compartment to look for things like say your wallet or other valuables.
Also, if you left your windows down, nothing really stops a thief from reaching in and opening the secret compartment to take valuables. Sure the alarm will go off. But honestly how many times do you hear a car alarm and just ignore it?
