I have a 2014 3LT A6. I locked the car with the windows open. I reached in and opened the glove box. No alarms, so apparently the motion sensors are not activated with the windows down and the glove box opened.

Did you wait for the solid red lamp on the dash to start blinking?

Thank you Elmer. I did not wait for the light the first time.
Mine also alarmed and the glove box was locked with the windows down and top on.
Even with the M7 in reverse, you can open the screen hideaway after a given amount of time. Not sure how long it is, bit it will open after sitting a while.
[QUOTE=eboggs_jkvl;1594897512]Mostly true but you can put a plug into the driver's side hole at the top of the windshield and all the alarms will set including intrusion. Sadly, the convertible can't be armed in this manner and while I can turn on the door alarm, intrusion stays off with the top down.
I tried to do this with no luck. I even tried holding a flat head screw driver against the pin then locked the car. Is there an amount of time it takes for the motion sensors to activate? Do you have a pic of the cap you used? Thank you

When everything is closed (or thinks it's closed) the alarm takes about 30 seconds to set. Look at the red light on the dash. When it starts to blink slow, the alarm is active.
