Great delivery experience & super price on 2018 GS

Beautiful car! Pretty much exactly what I'd like to end up with. Is it common to not be told what it costs until delivery? I've never ordered a car and had it built, so I'm not familiar with the process, but that seems ridiculous imo!

Classic Chev. in Grapevine, Texas explained that the reason they didn't know what the final price would be, was because the GM discounts applicable would be at the time of delivery to the buyer. That Makes sense. What makes no sense at all was Classic's whining that MacMulkin's concrete quote was less than they pay GM for the new C7. Classic wasn't even in the ballpark.

Sometimes, when a model year just gets started, there is also the issue of not all option prices being finalized. In that case, you're likely to be told an estimate of what the option(s) might be. While it sounds like you're buying something without knowing the final, to-the-dollar-price, each dealer and customer has the right to deny taking delivery/paying for the car at time of delivery to the dealer. Generally, a dealer knows, or has a very good idea what the price will be of options even without published prices---that is, if they have any experience with Corvette sales in the past.

Congrats on your new Corvette, Hollingswerth. I bought my 2016 Stingray from Mike Davenport. I am very pleased with how he treated me. Please feel free to join us this Wednesday at Bachman Chevy for our club meeting. Falls City Corvette Club meets there on the third Wed. of every month at 7 pm.

I can buy that reasoning I guess, but if I order under the belief it'll be one price, and when it's delivered it ends up being several grand more, that's a potenta problem. I agree that it's a ridiculous excuse that their price is so widely different than another dealer.
MacMulkin, was extending me an 11% off MSRP.
Same exact new built-to order 2017 in March 2017.
Classic seemed offended that I would buy from MacMulkin. LOL! 😊.

I've not gone down the road to ordering a new Corvette locally, simply because none of the Chev. dealers can or will even match MacMulkin's up front bottom line price. Classic Chev. In Grapevine, Texas could only come within $4K of MacMulkin on the same exact built to order C7. The silly sales rep claimed that Classic paid more than what my bona-fide locked in offer from MacMulkin was. I suggested they buy from MacMulkin too, at that point. They pulled the we don't know the price until it gets here routine too. Wonder how they were able to sell for $613.00 less than MacMulkin?

Congrats and nice colour choice. A friend of mine has the same colour and interior colour on her 2017 GS. I have black guts on my 17 Z06 with the WGG exterior. Enjoy the new ride.

I'd have laughed in their face too. There's no logical reason to pay thousands more locally. Especially if you're taking delivery from the factory.

The second thing that can happen is GM incentives can change. This year, if you based the price on April incentives and got the car in May the price would have gone up, but the dealer can also show you this.To say they don't know is not 100% true. On the flip side, there are no incentives this month so if you ordered a car and received it in August there may be GM incentives. So the dealer can tell you the maximum price and give you any incentives that are available. That's what most dealers will do.
Congrats to the OP on a good deal and cool car.

It's not really normal or 100% true. As an example, if you order a 2018 early in 2017 there could be a slight adjustment in the cost, but its roughly the same price as the 2017. The dealer could just tell you the 2017 price, and warn you that he will show you any difference when the 2018 prices are available. At this point the invoice prices are in the dealers system. The 2018 base price is about $55 more than 2017.

As long as your Chevy dealer can get you to -11% off MSRP, he's getting you to the Promised Land. Makes no difference to me how he arrives @ -11%. That's for him to figure out. Or, no sale.

If 11% is all you want then that's okay, but some months when GM is offering incentives you can do better than that.
Either way, the OP got a good deal from Davenport and I think that's pretty cool he could do it using a local dealer.

You won't know that until the car is delivered. -11% built-to-order (-12% MSRP on in-stock new '18 units) is guaranteed from MacMulkin. Your local Chev. dealer? Good luck trying to get that guarantee. 😊
