That's funny, mine got super soaked last week, I had to drive thru some huge puddles, and I found that the insulation in the wheel wells started to smell fishy... (they got super soaked), my son made a comment that my car smelled like fish? They have since dried out and the fish smell went away. I attribute my fish smell to insulation material and moisture.. stick your head in the wheel well, that is where it is coming from. did you drive it in the rain? Now all I smell is leather when i get in it.... NICE!

Just traded my 2014 at 13k miles and still had the smell, loved that it had that "new" car smell still after 3 years, now the new 2017 Z06 has a different kind of new smell, but not the same as the 2014, but do still hope it sticks around.

Thought you might enjoy that.

On a more serious note, it sounds like the smell is not the glue/composite smell that we're all used to, especially at first, with our vettes. I wonder if you have a small a/c leak and pag oil is getting on a hot manifold or something? Pag oil is kind of stinky. Happened on our new GS and they replaced the a/c compressor a couple of weeks ago. Hope you find it.

When I in it it smells great like fresh leather. When I get out of the car, the smell emanating from under the car, under the hood and even the back end of the car smells like fish.

I do appreciate all the replies though thank you.
Don't get out, just keep driving.

JK, I never noticed anything like this upon exiting.

If it is really not a pleasant smell, just get a car air freshener until that new car smell begins to wear off.

I've got the same problem on my 2017 Z. Inside smells like wonderful 3LZ leather. When I get out it sometimes smells like fish. The first time it happened it was very bad. Now it is only present occasionally, and I notice that it seems to happen when I've been using the AC right up until I park. If I don't use the AC at all or if I turn it off long before I park, I don't really smell it. Doesn't seem to come from the front or engine compartment. Seems like l smell it more from the rear intake vents and the vents behind the trans cooler and diff cooler.

I do have to say that the first time I noticed it was the first time I drove it after I got totally soaked in a huge torrential downpour for about a 45 min drive. It was really the first time the car got really wet.

Any chance the AC drain got plugged underneath? I still notice water dripping out on the front right side above the catalytic converter when I park so it must not be totally plugged if it IS that. Any help guys?

You're not alone
We were in Florida and left on June 7th in a torrential down pour that lasted 3 hours while we were heading North back to MA.
Rain stopped about half way up through Florida.
We continued on through Georgia and on our 1st stop, we smelled fish "when we got out of the car".
Just thought it was the area.
But at our stops in NC, and Maryland, we smelled it again when we got out of the car.
We had 80-85 degree weather cruising for 3-5 hours each time.
It was coming from under the car, front and rear and thought it was the tires.
Not until we hit NY a day later, the smell was gone when we got out of the car.

Whatever it was, it was the first time it happened and was definitely a Fishy smell.
In hind sight I'd say it was from the torrential rain soaking the car underneath.
Wheel well liners ??

I also live in Florida but last fall while driving all the way up to PA in Hurricane Matthew's torrential rains my car also had a fishy smell for a day or two outside. I believe it's the wheel well liners when they're soaked. They dry out it goes away at least in my experience. I think as the car get's older it gets less pungent as they say! Good luck. Who knows maybe I ran over a fiish or two. There sure was enough ponding on the roads.

Perhaps you should get another person to sit in your car and exit just to see what they smell. You know..........um just for the halibut.

Seriously though, you might want to bring it in and make sure the condensation tube is connected to the ac unit and it is not plugged with anything either.

Mine might have been partially clogged but it's just a guess at this point. I still had water dripping from the condensation tube area when I last checked. Yesterday I ran for a while with the AC on full blast and I'll do that again today. My thought was to try to flush out anything in there.

The smell is definitely diminished in mine though. I can barely smell it at the moment but I'll keep trying to see if I can replicate the smell.

Regarding the wheel well liners, it could definitely be that. Mine were soaked during the big rain and then I washed it before taking it out the next time. The wheel wells were pretty dirty so i sprayed them down with the hose. After a drive a few hours later is when I first smelled the fishy smell. But then it lasted a couple weeks. Hard to believe they would take that long to dry out.
