New 2014 Z51 3LT Owner - Some Questions
Hey Everyone,
I just purchased a 2014 Z51 3LT Laguna Blue Metallic M7 yesterday. I don't actually pick it up until next Saturday. First Corvette I have ever owned. Currently I won a 2008 Pontiac G8 which is basically a show car and my daily driver is a 2011 GMC Terrain. I'm sad I may have to sell my G8 because it's so rare, was my first brand new car, and is 100% immaculate. But I am also excited about owning a Corvette.
Couple questions I hope I can get some input on.
1. What should I look for when inspecting the car both in-person and test drive? Since 2014 was the 1st year of the new generation, just wondering if 2014 was the "issues" year and if so, what things should I listen for, ask if they were fixed/changed, etc etc
2. What would be the 1st performance mod you would recommend? Intake...tune...?
It's a bitter sweet purchase because in a few months I have to sell my pride and joy, but also happy times because now I have a C7.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum but this thread is more appropriate for the C7 General section. Moving it over there.

Congrats on your first Corvette. As far as problems go the 2014 model seems to have less problems than other years.

Welcome to the Corvette family. As 2K14C7 said the 14's have been very reliable. The only issue on some was the infotainment screen going screwy, but they would do this early after being bought new. My guess is if this one had the problem it would have been fixed by now. I suggest having the dealer's service dept. check the service records for any other problem that may have popped up. If it's not a Chevy dealer you're buying from, get the VIN and take to your local Chevy dealer, and ask the service writer to check for you. Won't cost you anything.
Congratulations, you never forget your first. And don't forget to wave.
Post some pics when you get her home.

No such thing as a bad deal if everyone is happy Congrats on your car. I recommend you drive the car and get use to it before you consider mods for performance

I'd look over the paint, particularly at panel gaps and where vents touch paint, and in the back hatch. Otherwise they're fairly bulletproof. I'd check the diff oil level.
Give it six months before you (power) mod it. It'll already be a lot faster than what you're used to, so wait until that becomes "normal" to you before you bother trying to change it.
If I'm going to keep a car a long time, and want to keep it fresh, I do something every 18 months or so (wheels, mods, whatever). Though so far with the C7Z I've been content to leave it alone, it's pretty good out of the box!

Determine if the roof rattles or squeaks. There is a fix for it.

Congrats on the pending purchase. The '14s are probably the better model year Vettes - one can argue they may have been more carefully scrutinized during the build process.
BTW my son just bought a '08 G8 GT and loves it. He currently owns a C4 and C6 and says it combines the best of a sedan and Vette. I'm sure you'll miss it, but the C7 will be a good replacement!

Recently sold my September 2013 built C7, Z51 3LT.
I had zero problems needing dealer attention. The only minor issue was to close the hatch I needed to have the door (or window) open! Don't push in the center of the hatch frame to latch as there are reports of paint cracking and a few of the lower hatch frame cracking!
Best of luck. Have a Grand Sport now- hope it is as reliable as the 2014.

I have a Sports Red 2009 G8 and a Pacific Slate 2009 G8 GT as well as the corvette. The G8 is my wife's DD. The GT is going to be mine when my current DD dies.

Yea the carfax is clean, all routine maintenance done as it should be. It's a chevy dealership so that's good. Can't wait to get back into an M7. Automatic just kills me. Biggest draw, actually only draw, with my G8. Still working on a way to maybe keep it.
Question, does the car stay in the last mode you were in? Or do I have to select sport or track mode every time I turn car on.
Thanks

Welcome to the Corvette family. I bought a 2009 G8 GT brand new in 09. Loved it, nurtured it, and modded it. Traded it in for a 2015 Z51. The Z51 prevents me from missing it.
All kinds of C7 mods to do. My current mods include:
Ceramic paint coating
Z06 poverty splitter
Blacked out chrome strip in stock grille
GM splash guards
WeatherTech floor liners
Black lugnuts (to go with my black wheels)
Black center caps
Kooks 1 7/8" LTs + green cat X-pipe
