The best objective info we can give you is that we have estimated based on polls on this site that about 5% of the 2015 - 2018 A8 owners have issues with the transmission, so that would make about 4000 owners with issues.

I'm curious how "we" came up with this number.
Is 5% the percentage reported here on this site? If so, when extrapolated out to the general C7 population, I would say this number of 4000 owners is higher than the real world, as this site is always going to skew numbers of problems towards the high end.
Can you explain exactly how "we" came up with this number?

Supporting info is all in the forum for you to search.
One note, AFM nay function differently outside the USA where CAFE regulations are not an issue. OP this is worth looking into, if your version of the C7 doesn't run AFM in all modes like the US one you may be golden.
All evidence points to AFM being the cause of most A8 issues (or more specifically, use of the torque converter to dampen AFM vibrations) -- so if you live in a country where modes other than Eco are AFM-free, you may be completely fine with an A8.

If anything, CAFE regulations or the equivalent are an even bigger issue in the EU.
It will be 4 years that I've had my 2014 C7. With almost 25,000 miles, no problems at all.
Same here. No problems with My 2014 vert A6 with 16000 miles so far.
Daily driver, so vert goes thru 6 - 8 cycles/day.
Already bought extended warranty to 7 yrs, so no worries...

It's not very hard to find. It's the #1 sticky at the top of the C7 General section of this forum.
17% (61) of 359 responses reported a failure in the largest poll. I sure don't know where 5% came from. Several other polls all showed about 15%. Based upon this, GM would be lucky as hell if it's only 5% in "the real world."

Agreed.
In the real world I would doubt less than 1%
This reminds me of all those other car / motorcycle problems and internet saturation of the few! Like final drive BMW M/C problems, which was massive on the net and one day I asked my BMW M/C "old tech" at a large BMW shop which took care of about 10 CHP Areas and numerous City motors. He said they have had one or two in all those yrs. I had ridden at least 4 of those bikes in question all over the western 11 and rode hard and fast miles, not a problem.

Somehow, I don't think it's quite that low. If so, GM would be the first to say it, but they have been very tight-lipped despite considerable negative publicity.
