As mentioned in some previous threads I started, I'm looking to buy my first vette over the next couple of weeks. I live in South-Eastern Europe (Bosnia), and am coming from a '15 CLA45 AMG (the worst car I ever owned -- I had to replace the turbo, and parts of the transmission after 2y of owning it..bought it brand new)
I've been digging around this forum (there's a lot of great stuff), and while I absolutely love the corvette, and am planning on buying a '16 w/ A8, I'm starting to worry how reliable they are.
C7 A8 owners, do you regret buying a A8? I like to drive my cars (high speed, lots of miles -- basically, I drive it like a gypsy ) and am a bit worried.
Mine has had the transmission removed 3 times in the first 6 weeks of ownership. The other two people I know with C7's have both had their torque converter replaced. So thats 100% of us 3.
Hi Emil, No problems here and I have several friends with A8 and no problems. I asked my friend in the Bay Area where he autocrosses and he hasn't heard of any problems either. I asked a tech I know at my dealership and he said none there. They cater to Vettes too! I wouldn't worry about it, there are thousands to one! Warranty for 5 years!
From reading this forum, I would conclude that getting an A8 is a little bit of a crapshoot. The odds are with you that you will not have a problem, but there are more issues that occur with the A8 than any other part of the C7.

Also agree. If you had to pick the #1 major problem area in all MYs it would be the A8. Before anyone gets undergarments all twisted up, that doesn't negate the fact the majority are OK.
If I were in an area (like the OP), where parts may be more difficult to acquire, I'd go with an M7 or a '14 auto, which had the more tried and true A6. The rest of the car is solid.
My guess is your GM dealers there work on very few Corvettes. I would do some research and find out if there are any trained Corvette techs near you. If not, I would shop for something different. My M7 has been very reliable but I have several good dealerships within miles from my home.
The best objective info we can give you is that we have estimated based on polls on this site that about 5% of the 2015 - 2018 A8 owners have issues with the transmission, so that would make about 4000 owners with issues.
Don´t forget that here in the east or center EU we have a limited acces to the experienced technicians, dealers and servicemans for Vettes. Also spare parts are very expensive. I´d recomend to buy C7 M7. Have one with 30k km´s and works perfectly.
just do the manual, still ckbefore hand to see if your dealer has a good expert
Betting most vette owners arent on forums so theres probably plenty more out there with issues (and many not). Too risky being that far away if it were me.
Cars with less electronics usually have less problems.
