Default iPass......Other than Windshield????

I hate putting that ugly iPass transmitter in the windshield. Even though we have a very good field of view for a sports car we don't need anything blocking our view. Our cars are made of plastic,,,right,,,so it shouldn't block the signal if we put it in a different place. Like maybe in the engine well Anyone tried one???

Most of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic use a system call EZPass, and I just leave my transponder in the behind-screen bin. I usually place it on the dash when I'm on a toll road.

Some have reported that the transponder is read inside the bin.

Living in North Carolina I only have to use mine when traveling. I just hold up to the windshield when needed, and it does fine. I don't know what I would do if I had to use the thing everyday.

I keep my transponder in the bin behind the screen, however SunPass in Florida reads it only sometimes. Fortunately they also read tags, so it's a nonissue.

I forgot to add previously, that if it's in the bin and doesn't read occasionally, it's no big deal. Since they take pictures, if your plate is linked to a transponder, they'll debit your account that way.

Mine is stuck to the inside of the deck lid on my GS convertible. Works just fine there. I wouldn't be opposed to the windshield mounting except for that it's tinted.

The I-Pass transponders will work on the underside of a C6 hood, but will not work on the underside of the C7 hood. I tried it and it did not work because the C7 hood is carbon fiber.
The transponder can be mounted on the underside of the trunk lid on a C7 convertible. Not sure where to mount on a coupe.

I ordered one of these and placed it on the recessed slot that the defroster blows air out of:
https://mypasscover.com Looks like it's part of the car. Velcro keeps it from moving.
Ez pass in leather cover.

I have one transponder that is registered to 3 of my cars. You technically don't need to have it in the car as long as your plates are registered to a Ipass transponder.

I leave mine there, and it reads just fine.

I make sure there is never anything on top of it on the top shelf of the Bin Buddy.

Not if the toll camera gets your plate, and you have your plate registered with ezpass. The NY/NJ tolls are going cashless, the Triboro has already gone cashless and it takes a pic of your plate. If your tag is in your ezpass account, the toll gets billed to your account, and if not, they send you a bill in the mail, not admin fee. You can also call ezpass any time you get charged an admin fee and have it waved as long as you have a valid ez pass account and aren't habitual.

That's is the problem.New plate leaving dealer.Didn't add it...ME BAD
The newer transponders are smaller and probably work hidden? Something to look into.

Wow, that's harsh. Our GoodtoGo has three tiers:

1. Transponder reads fine. Normal Charge.
2. Transponder fails, but plate pic taken, tied to account, 25 cent fee.
3. Plate pic taken, no account, bill by mail for $2.00.

Newest transponders are quite small and paste on the windshield just behind the mirror. You can't see it while driving.

I have an external one on my Audi, screwed to front plate.

On the vette i have a new smaller white one in a suction cup holder high on the windshield behind the mirror. But i'm going to move it or color it black, it looks like crap from the outside.

mines laying behind the screen.... works fine in PA NJ MD DE...so far... just got a new expedition and put it in the glove box....it works too.... i think the new smaller transponders must have a better signal ....it seems like a big waste now anyway... if they can do it by tag and mail....just connect my EZpass account to my tag so it works every where and stop wasting money on all the other crap...... and give us a better discount too!!!!

Yes, as I originally said, a plate has to be registered w/ an EZPass account or else you get the big fine you did. You can't just take your transponder w/ you in any vehicle. That's a good theft preventer, and I'm glad they do it that way, otherwise, windows would be smashed just to grab those transponders.

I learned that years ago, when I sold a vehicle to my brother in NJ, left my MD plates on it for him to get home, and he used his EZPass on the NJ Turnpike, without telling me.
