Just got my 2017 Base C-7 Sunday, in Admiral Blue, love the car. I've noticed the paint has an orange peel texture to it. The paint color is deep & beautiful, but at certain angles, the texture isn’t so smooth, I think it’s referred to as orange peel. I looked at other corvettes on the lot, all of them had some orange peel, not perfectly smooth paint. Is it just me, or have others noticed this too?
Lol. If you do a search you'll find other thread(s) regarding this exact topic. It's just the way Corvettes have been painted. Everyone is interested to see if the new paint shop will remedy this.
As I just posted on Z forum, I'll repeat my guesses/observation. Orange peel occurs when the paint doesn't have enough time to "flow" & level out before it hardens. Much on the net speculates this has alot to do with U.S. EPA restricting the solid (paint) to solvent (liquid) ratio. Overseas not as much strict control (yet) on the solvent pollution problem. A new standard is gaining traction here using waterborne paint (many collision repair shops have switched). I wonder if the new paint dept for Vettes will be of the waterborne process.

Kind of expected this to be typical. Apparently my search wasn't specific.
The dealer had a couple of suggestions, Salesman has a guy that does clay waxing. The body shop recommended buffing the orange peel out. Anyone had a good experience with either?
madrob2020, nice insight.
Here's a pic of the new C-7 and my 2000 C-5. It's common knowledge, blue is the fastest color, lol.
^^It is more obvious with the darker colors. My blade silver has plenty of orange peel, just not as easily noticed.
B Chas - clay waxing absolutely will not remove orange peel. Only fix is to wet sand and polish and you have to be careful to not burn through the clear coat. So really, it would be a good idea to add more clear coat to the car and then wet sand and polish...some have had success with wet sanding the factory clear coat, but I have heard that it is a very thin coat.

The clear coat isn't the only thing that is thin on these...
Since this car was Hatched.Constant bitching about the OP.I tore people apart on the forum for accepting the vehicle. If everyone didn't accept the car maybe GM will fix it?
Displayed many a DEAD Horse here:
Funny Thing Happened I ACCEPTED THE PEEL
Really to fix seems easy? Not Cheap..

I've accepted various flaws in them.... however for the $$$ they want it's a lot like my Harley..... put up the quality if you want the $$$$.
I've gone through all the forums and read the history... really a Vega steering wheel?? Seems like GM hasn't exactly delivered a pure car since ever. Why expect anything now?

orange peel is created because they painted the car with a 3/8 inch roller
orange peel should be an option ..but GMC provides it for no additional charge... when you get a ding in the door etc. it will be much less noticeable ... just be thankful you have no drips or chipping paint ..
I have a black 2016 Colorado and a 2017 Admiral Blue Stingray. The paint texture is the same on both vehicles. (Blame the EPA) Don't expect glass smooth paint from the new paint facility when the assembly line starts producing Corvettes again.
not really it's an image there are a lot of cars that are faster, including Tesla... same price range, no peel, state of the art. Face it there is an image thing with Vettes. Had I found a pristine original GTO Judge or a TransAM (69 or 77) this Vette wouldn't be sitting here.
With that said....(since the wife can't read this) The Vette does get the hotties attention.
