2014 z51 here have chged the oil3 times never have chged it out yet. But like one guy said above don't over do it on putting it back in. Mine still looked like new.
You don't buy the rubber gasket. You just buy a whole new plug that includes it. They can be reused many times over.
Bought high quality magnetic drain plugs for my C7 Z51 and they had separate washers you did replace. That company now sells the plugs, which I bought for my Grand Sport, with the OEM type captive "rubber type" gasket. As you note, they can be reused many times.
OP should clean the plug hole surface, not overtighten and check for leaks.
Since the topic is changing oil, I have a question or two as well. My 2017 Stingray (wet sump - not a Z51 car) is going to cross the 3,000 mile threshold when I drive it today or tomorrow. My oil life monitor says I am right at 49 percent. Since I have had the car just over six months, I am going to do it pretty soon. More likely than not, I will have the local Chevy dealer do it - as I get two "free" services from GM within 24 months. As is the case with every other car I have owned, I will do my own oil & filter changes afterwards.
With the LT1 engine in the Stingray, is the drain plug (only one - I assume) at the REAR of the oil pan? If I have the car on ramps, it will be at a slight downward angle and the oil should theoretically drain better. My Nissan Altima has "crush washers" that I use each time I change the oil. By the post above, I assume the Corvette has a rubber gasket instead. Is that true? I suppose it is reusable.....at least for a few times.
Is the oil filter easy to reach when you are under the car (driven up on ramps or on jack stands)? Does it hang vertically like with the Chevy Silverado V8 engine? What is the capacity of the crankcase + the filter in a 2017 Stingray with the LT1 wet sump engine? I know that Costco often has Mobil-1 cases (six quarts) on sale at a great savings.
Oh.......one more thing........how do you reset the oil life monitor in the Corvette? In my Nissan Altima, it goes strictly by mileage - but does the Corvette "know" when the oil is freshly changed? Before someone gives a snarky reply, that info probably is contained within the owner's guide - but I have not ventured out into my garage yet this morning.
Thanks very much!!
P.S. I had a 1988 and a 1993 Mustang GT 5.0L - both of which had TWO oil drain plugs!
How to Reset the Engine Oil
Life System
Reset the system whenever the
engine oil is changed so that the
system can calculate the next
engine oil change. To reset the
system:
1. Scroll through the DIC Info
Pages menu until the
REMAINING OIL LIFE
percentage is displayed. See
Driver Information Center
(DIC) 0 113.
2. Press and hold the SEL button
on the DIC while the Oil Life
display is active. The oil life will
change to 100%.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON
message comes back on when the
vehicle is started, the engine oil life
system has not reset. Repeat the
procedure.
Easy enough to do, it seems. I got 2 oil changes from my Dealer as well as the 2 from Chevy. Won't have to worry about it for 2 years. Won't be putting that much mileage on it--after break in, anyway. Remember, the Stingray takes 7 quarts, not 6 like the LS engines. Better off buying 3 5 qt jugs when on sale. Takes care of 2 changes, and has a qt left over to top off, if needed.
