OK, I've cleaned up the pissing contest. Let's keep this ON TOPIC and quit the personal bickering.

Talking my language, I'm an email guy. SMTP is all about IETF standards and API's. And I think this would be the same thing.

Ask Tadge still can't hurt, if you get it worded well I think. The questions are starting to slow down a little and depending on what else you're up against it might work . I'd maybe take a little broader stance with it about potential for future updates to software to support newer features as they come along with regards to AA and CarPlay and then get specific about interfaces from AA and CarPlay to the car. I think we all know that what happens within AA and CarPlay is controlled by those developers, so if Apple wants to update CarPlay and you upgrade to the new version of iOS, you'll get new features without GM having to do anything. But what we want to know is if there are existing API's that are not leveraged today, or new ones that are delivered by Apple or Google, will those be introduced into the Corvette and more importantly will they be retroactively implemented?

Don't think this will help as it is probably out-of-date: MyLink API (Application Programming Interface) Documentation

I run my own email server (and domain) and wrote my own spam filters in Perl that run from my ~/.forward file and utilize a MySQL database. Been using that system since around 2001. In any event, IETF standards aside, "discovery" is something this apps do. AA discovers many things about the car it's attached to by asking for it's capabilities. Lacking that AA would not work at all. It's only this HUD information that is missing (but present on other cars). It just seems absentminded that GM would not simply advertise it can do turn by turn in the HUD, that is unless it failed to write any of the APIs to respond directions from apps like AA about the upcoming turns or wrote their APIs in a very non-standard way. My money's on they just didn't document it because they didn't think anybody else would be using it.

I don't understand why I'd need to "sell it". I'm an engineer. I think it should be done merely on 1) it's the right thing to do and 2) it'd be cool! That you'd might be able to sell more cars is a marketing person's job.

This is demonstrably false. AA and CP developers can't do the turn by turn in HUD thing because they need the go ahead from GM engineers that the functionality is there. IOW the functionality on the other end, the GM end, needs to be there. I guess they could just assume it's there and hope for the best but again, from an engineer, that's not the right way to do things.

Speaking of the Ask Tadge thing, how exactly does that work? Do I just post in the thread saying "Hey I'd like this" and hope for the best? I guess I'll look into this later.

You post your "Ask Tadge" question in the Ask Tadge > Ask Tadge forum section.

You need to "sell it" because your question will be pitted against other questions in a poll to determine which question actually goes to Tadge to get answered.

Thanks. I'll look it over.

Then it will not be "sold". I'm not in marketing and it'll have to stand on it's own merit. Pretty much why I resisted so far.

Yes I did. In fact, I have followed this entire thread since it's inception. And agree 100% with you as regards a number of the snarky responses. Some on this board need to realize that not everyone is into the rally thing.

If you did read the entire thread then you must be well aware that I was asking only about Android Auto. As such why did you post that it works using the factory nav?!? That's irrelevant and off topic. Indeed, some might even conclude that that was snarky.... At the very least one can conclude that it was not a helpful post at all.

Well, look at it this way. He has more people on his ignore list now. Pretty soon he won't have anything left to read on the forum.

I understand you are referring to AA. I myself have oft wondered why we cannot get it to show up in the HUD as the factory nav does. My original post was in response to that made by another member as regards the factory nav. I'd much sooner have android auto turn by turn on my windshield.
