Default What's wrong with this picture? + Great Corvette Community Story

Ignore the black patch over the side window. That's to cover up the embarrassing mailbox number stickers used for an event.

The answer, and a good story, is here for those interested and don't want to scroll.

And for extra credit! The front C7 wheel cap logo bottom does not face the front wheel valve stem. Whereas the rear one does!

That's what you named your image. So I will go with that.

As stated earlier front rim different from back rim in design.

No prize - just a story.

The rear wheel is from a Z06.

Earlier this year, drove the car 1000 miles to a 1 mile top speed event in Arkansas. Made a detour through Tail of the Dragon. Checked the car over the morning of the event and saw this...

No one within 150 miles of my location had a replacement tire. I didn't want to try to make the return trip on that tire. A very generous, and much better prepared, member of the Corvette community was at the event with a trailer full of Z06 wheels/tires. He very graciously lent me a wheel to make the trip home. This is why I wave at other Corvette drivers.

I appreciate the kind words! I was glad to help you out, and I might add that you did exactly what you said you would do on returning my wheel with a new Michelin mounted and balanced wrapped in plastic. It also says a lot about your integrity.
Have you had the alignment checked?

Hey! Thanks for checking in, wasn't sure if you would say anything on this post.

Yes, I've had the alignment done twice since Arkansas. I'm still setup for road course driving though. Running even more camber now than I was back then (-1.7 now, -1.4 then). Although, if I do another long road trip, I will adjust camber to be more neutral. I had the alignment checked after two HPDE events this summer (Summit Point Main, VIR Full) and it was way out of spec. Track driving seems to move things around quite a bit.

In case anyone is interested, the stock GS, on MPSS, did 156.5 on a terrible launch. My PDR was running and I hit 159 MPH before I had to slow down. Maybe a drag racing expert can chime in on what the car might do with a better launch.

vs the car the wheel came from which did 184.6 MPH

Seems to me you also have one other issue, there is no front splitter on the car

The car has what's known as the "poverty" splitter. Named for it's relative low cost to replace. It's part of stage one aero. In the context of the original post - for top speed runs - I believe the reduced drag compared to stages 2 and 3 from this splitter is desirable.

For the record, I'm a relatively new HPDE driver and am planning to incrementally add more aggressive aero bits as my skill level improves - i.e when I'm skilled enough to tell that they actually make a difference.
