Hey folks! I'm new on here. My first vette was an 84, my second was a 79.
I just bought a 2014 Z51 2 LT with only 6900 miles on it. Everything about the car is perfect except......it doesn't have navigation.
So I went to a Chevy dealer to see if I can just swap out the box (forgot what it was called).
They said yes. It would be just plug and play. But it would cost $1295 plus $189 installation.
Does this sound too expensive or is this about right?
There is a after market group that sells the Nav box, probably cheaper than the dealer. You can do the install yourself. The box sits up just above the kick panel on the driver's side. A small amount of dash (speaker cover), maybe the A pillar moulding, is removed to place the GPS antenna. I'm sure I saw a thread in here that showed it being done.
Not worth it. The GM, as well as most OEM nav systems are crap.
Better to install a front facing camera with a product like NavTool and use BT to Cast Waze to your dash from your phone. I do not recommend NavTool myself, as they are crooks, but most people use their product here. Search the forum, you will find the Geezer's Navtool Thread.
Sounds like a reasonable price and the dealer would give you a warranty with the item as well. The price at the dealer may be a couple of hundred dollars more than if you bought the unit yourself and installed it, but I think that it is worth the extra dollars to have it installed and working properly from the get go. My opinion.
Here is a link of what the physical install of the unit is. I think the dealer would have to link your VIN to the new unit so that if you wanted updates or whatever, it would work.

Thanks!
Everyone that I know uses their phones GPS. I have GPS in my vette but I don't utilize it. Your phones GPS is constantly updating every second your using it. It gives you lane closures, bottle necks, etc. Grab a good phone mount and your all set.
We just had this installed in our 2014 Silverado. The Nav unit is $899 without CarPlay and if you also want to add the CarPlay feature which is a separate unit the total is $1199. The package works great. Here is a link from where we purchased ours.
But just remember, all the CarPlay or android apps only work when you have cell coverage. You try and go into the boonies, you might not have nav..
You are correct however we do have the GM navigation also. My wife seems to think her phone calls, music, Siri, work better also. If it were up to me I would not have paid extra for the CarPlay but the wife uses the Silverado most of the time and she paid for it. The most important thing is that she is happy with it. The nav in our 2015 Corvette is fine for me.
