You can assume that rocks are going to be released from every possible spot on the tire except the very bottom. Whether it hits the side of car is solely a function of the geometry of the body panel and its relation to the front tire.
Fortunately area covered in Xpel which appears to have taken most the beating. Skirts may be the only salvation, once Xpel replaced.

It's just my preference, but I'd rather replace that small amount of XPEL every couple of years rather than install skirts, which I dislike.
