I'm not trying to side-track this conversation but I do think it's contextually relevant that apparently the factory warranty has dropped to 24 months/24,000 miles. :S
Never mind, that was something else.

Has anyone raised the question related to the used car dealers representation of the car?
Did the dealer state the car was under warranty? If it was me and the car was represented as being under GM warranty, when in fact it wasn't, I would certainly go back the business that sold me the car looking for cost relief.
A car that should be under warranty on a time/mileage basis would be worth more than a car with a voided warranty. If the price you paid was based on a warranty being in place, I would fight for something. A good reference point would be the cost of an aftermarket warranty.

It was purchased from a non gm dealer. They purchased it from an auction.
A well known guy on this forum is going to pull the motor to actually inspect each part for damage and determine if anything is reusable. If I got lucky and can reuse block and some other components, then I’ll rebuild that way and get some custom parts. Otherwise, I’ll be getting a tsp long block with custom rods, pistons, cam, ported heads, afm delete, etc...
Should turn out great either way..

OP you might want to consult with an attorney to see if the selling dealer has some liability here. The fact that they bought it at auction shouldn't mean jack as far as you're concerned. You bought it from them, not a auction. Perhaps a lawyer could convince them to help cover some of the repairs? The fact that you bought it used and not new, makes me think you don't have an unlimited supply of money, like say jag (Jeremy) If all else fails, maybe start a GoFundme acccount

Yeah, I saw that...
Texas Speed and Performance has long block with factory forged crankshaft, aftermarket forged rods/pistons, cnc’d heads, custom cam, etc...shipped to my door for less than a gm crate motor would be, believe it or not...that was an easy decision..

Come on guys!!!! This stuff about "Why I would never buy a used car "is just total b.s.. I bought a 2014 z51 a year ago,had 7k on it ,have put another 10k on it in last year with no problems. And did I mention I saved just over 22k off new price with a full extended warranty!!! Some of us don't have an endless supply of money and need to make wise financial decisions to make up for it. Buying my car brand new is just like rolling out of the new car parking lot the first ride home, rolling down your window and just tossing 20k out of it!!! Sorry facts are facts. Gary
big difference, you bought with extended warranty...OP did not
buying a used car without anything IS a crap shoot...no matter the miles as you have no idea on history

Before buying a used performance car, diesel pickup, etc. I wouldn't buy it without knowing the selling GM dealer went through the same process needed to achieve factory warranty on a major powertrain component. I would be extremely leery of buying it through a non-GM dealer unless they are able to arrange for a GM dealer to have it checked for modifications. Otherwise the used car price would have to be low enough to make it attractive with no warranty support. Certainly not every used Corvette has been tuned/modified but quite a number certainly have so it is definitely a buyer beware situation.
