I think price varies a lot with the combination of months and miles. I typically wait until just before the B2B runs out or just before I hit 24K miles if I am putting a lot of miles on the vehicle. It used to be that if you purchased the GMPP plan before 24K miles you had up to 84 months of coverage you could get. If you purchased after 24K miles you were limited in the number of months coverage that could be purchased. My C5Z had over 24K miles before the B2B expired and I could only get 48 months of coverage. My C6Z had less than 22K miles when the B2B was close to expiring and I was able to get 84 months of coverage. When I choose the 84 month plan I always go with the lowest number of miles available since I don't put more than 6K miles per year on the car. With the C6Z the lowest number of miles I could get was with the 84/56K plan which would provide coverage until it hit 78K miles or 10 years from the in service date. When I sold the car there were 2 years and 35K miles of coverage left which the new owner had switched over to his name.
One point of clarification, although the policy starts the day you purchase it there is a 1 month AND a 1,000 mile waiting period before any claims will get covered.
Mostly correct but the "waiting period" is only in effect IF you buy the plan more than some interval.... I believe it is 30 days.... AFTER you purchase the vehicle, if it is still within the original Factory warranty.
Dennis can and will spell this out for you and there is at least one recent thread on this topic.... but for me I found Dennis a great person to deal with so I would endorse you giving him a shot at your warranty business....LK
However, the agreement w/ GM limited the amount of time Ally could market it as a GM product. GMAC was also a separate company from GM as well, but was then considered as part of the GM family.
True, Ally had a limited amount of time where it was the "preferred finance" choice of GM (and Chrysler). This was the reason for the name change mostly (that and the Commercial side of GMAC never made sense being called GMAC). When GM and Chrysler created new "captive finance" arms (GM by buying AmeriCredit and renaming it GM Financial and Chrysler by entering into an agreement with Santander).
GMAC (General Motors Acceptance Corporation) was (until 2009) a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. Just as General Motors Financial Company is now a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Company.
Funny, as I read through this thread with interest, and just got to the last entry, an email popped into my in box..... it was from Chevy with the "Chevy Protection Plan".
Amazing timing, as I didn't click on any other links to other websites. Go figure
EDIT........ UPDATE......
so I clicked on the email offer directly from Chevrolet for their "Chevy Protection Plan" on our 1 year old Grand Sport with 4800 miles on it. The Platinum coverage for 3 years, or 36k miles was a whopping $5400.
No thanks....... had no idea they were that expensive. Perhaps as the time gets closer, I'll ping Dennis F for a quote if I still want to keep the car beyond it's 3 year, 36k factory warranty.
No one mention cost. What is the approximate cost of these warranty plans?
That's a question that can't be answered other than, "it depends." They can start well under $1K and probably go to well over $3K depending upon all the variables discussed here, as well as, whom you're purchasing it from.
Many dealers mark these way up over their cost, and it's a big profit center for them. That's why most recommend contacting Dennis Fichtner @ Denny Menholt Chevrolet, who usually (not always) comes through w/ the lowest price after you describe your situation and coverage desires.

Those prices are why so many of us contact Dennis for a "down to earth" price quote, Strake!! Can you play "Let's make a deal" with a finance person in a stealership for a few dollars less.... maybe!!.... but I like the no hassle path of contacting Dennis for solid advice and a really fair price......LK
I paid $955 for a 60 month, 40,000 mile Platinum zero deductible Chevrolet Protection Plan for my 2014 Z51. I purchased the plan just days before the original 36 month factory warranty expired. I don't put a lot of miles on the car, so this extends my warranty to 8 years (96 months) or 52,275 miles. Purchased from Denny Menholt Chevrolet via Dennis Fichtner.
Thanks for the endorsements and for your business!
FYI - Dennis Fichtner had to have a knee replaced late last week. He will be away from the dealership for a number of weeks.
Until he returns I will be back in "the plan business" in addition to all of the other things I do in the dealership. Please email me for a quote and I will gladly take care of you. We are running a sale again this month and I expect prices to increase next month.

The contract clearly states the 30 day/1000 mile waiting period begins at the contract signing date, there is no other stipulation based on other plan intervals.

Hummn..... this is taken directly from the PDF version of my contract...... I didn't remember how long the "if" clause was for.... it is 10 days!!!!....LK
If the Contract Purchase Date is more than 10 days after the Vehicle Purchase Date, then a Mandatory “Waiting Period” will apply before Coverage begins. The “Waiting Period” is 30 days and 1,000 miles from the Contract Purchase Date. However, an additional 30 days and 1,000 miles will be added to the
Contract’s scheduled expiration.

Last I looked, the 30 day/1k mile waiting period was in effect but the contract also was extended by those amounts at the end. So you still get the months/miles you pay for, but there will be that gap unless you buy one month/1k miles before your b-2-b expires.
In our case, the numbers worked out better to buy within the first year of the b-2-b and in that case it's actually a better deal- one less month where you are having duplicate coverage.
Check Black Cadillac in Ebensburg PA. They have a website dedicated to GMEPP. They have competitive pricing. I bought a Platinum 84 month/75k plan for $2k when my car was brand new.

Yup...I agree with Jim about buying it early.....and note that the "waiting period" applies to all vehicles still within Factory B to B Warranty period if you do not purchase the plan within 10 days of purchasing the vehicle...went through this in great detail when I purchased my Chevy Plan from Dennis in September.... luckily I was able to take two nice extended trips to "burn" the waiting period off before my B to B expiredand avoid any gap..

So, if you purchase a used vehicle that is near the end of the B to B warranty, I suggest you get the Chevy Plan at time of purchase .... lest you wait until the last minute and find yourself having a major problem in the "gap" between expiration of your B to B and the end of a waiting period.....
BTW, you will be asked for a picture of your odometer reading to confirm the mileage on your vehicle when you buy the plan.......LK

DO NOT purchase this contract. I have one currently and if you have any modifications on the car or ever intend to put any part on your car that is not OEM they will try to cancel your contract on you (ask me how I know). While I agree that the service from Ken and Dennis was great at the time of sale, I have spent several hours trying to get this issue resolved and all they do (even up to the Regional GMEPP sales manager) is defer to the administrator of the service contract (AMT) despite their clear breach of contract. I had GMPP before and never had an issue with any repairs... they are completely different contracts (GMPP was by Ally, GMEPP is administered by AMT).
This is true. Almost any mechanical mod, even brakes and wheels, can cause disallowance of a claim and/or cancellation of the contract. This is in the "fine print".
