Default Patching a Run Flat

I woke up this morning and found my front tire to be at 11PSI. Sure enough I had a screw dead center. I aired it up to 30 and it maintained that pressure the 8 miles to discount tire where the fixed the puncture. (after the kid stalled the car and I showed him how to jack it up with my puck. lol) I asked someone who seemed more knowledgeable about the tires, and high performance vehicles, if there would be any issues driving at high speeds on a track. He said I had nothing to worry about. Do you agree, or will I run into an issue in the future?

I don't recall. If you go to Michelin's site, there may be info on speed rating, tire integrity, runflats after a tire is repaired. My guess from what I do recall is Michelins are good for one repair w/o losing speed rating. Of course, as with other tires it depends on more factors, not least of which is if you were running the tire on 0 pressure for X number of miles. That doesn't sound like your case though.

Yes, I read that as well. Just looking for confirmation on here. It doesn't appear I really have anything to worry about.

Segen,

You have nothing to worry about, and your tire guy gave you accurate advice, which is backed up the manufacturer. Michelin allows one proper repair in the center section of ZP tires. The approved repair is a combo plug/patch from the inside. The tire also retains it's speed rating, so no issues on the track.

That presumes you didn't drive it at low pressure, which you did not. That was smart on your part.

The link below corroborates what I just said above, and provides documentation of Michelin's policy.

Foosh gave good info.

Any RF can be repaired just the same as a non RF, provided they have not been driven on when flat.

I put 68,000 miles on a Michelin RF that had a hole on the edge of the sidewall. Properly plug/patched. This was after the repair.

Last week I replaced both rear Michelins Pilot Super Sports on my 2012 GS. They had between 5-6 cm remaining but the left had two repairs. I called Michelin and they said three repairs is the maximum but it's not a bad idea to replace for safety. One of the repairs was a plug done at discount tire so I felt that replacing them was a good idea.

Just to be on the safe side I replace all my tires every time I hit a pot hole.

I had a C5 with F1's that had a rear patch with never an issue. Just repair it.

I was actually think about this. I hit a leaf the other day, DAMN YOU FALL, and knew that it was inevitable that I would have to get all new tires. I'm pretty sure I'll need all new suspension as well.

I have a nail in my right rear tire. Dealer would not repair. I found a store that will repair as long as the interior isn't gel. I was told that some runflets have a gel interior coating. Any truth to that or am being led to buy a tire?

I think you need to find another dealer and another tire store. There is no "gel interior coating."

Years and years ago there was a tire advertised on TV that was suppose to "self patch" a puncture from a nail and had a sticky inner coating. As I recall it showed a tire running over a board with nails and as the nail came out of the tire it pulled the "gel" into the hole plugging it. That was a long time ago.

I agree - stay away from this place.

The only thing I can think of is they don't want to deal with a tire that has been injected with slime as a temporary repair. Its a real mess to clean up.
