Default Range Technology

Installed my new range device today. It is a 8.4 update. My car is a 2017 Corvette Z51 A8. I did a trial run today of which I put 22 kilometres on. I must say it work flawlessly, it never once went into V4 and it drove with much smarter throttle response. Of course it would because it is always in V8.
I for one definitely did not buy a corvette for good gas mileage, I want performance and this unit does the trick.

What's with all of the Range threads? Are they giving a discount for testimonials?

You don't mention how many times you started the car with the device plugged in or if you're using a swtich to turn it on/off. could you comment on that please?

Also if you could report back after a few days of using it please.

OK here goes, as I stated above this was my first install. I only started it once and then I drove the 22 Kms. I did not mention the switch because I don't have one. Yes I will add to my experiences with this unit in the near future.
I am not giving a testimonial just supplying information for my fellow forum members. I should mention that my cars' build date is 09/16, apparently there is a modified TC and a oil with a lesser viscosity in late 16 built cars.

I'll give an unsolicited testimonial then. I have used my Range for 7,500 miles over the last year when I got my 2016 Z51. Works perfectly and simply. Still get good mpg despite my efforts.

Thanks. 2016's have been fine since version 8.3 The problems are only with 2017's and newer now.

I bought one about a month ago (ver. 8.4) for my '16 Z06. On about the 10th start, got a DIC error message and went into limp mod. I unplugged it and the message went away 2 or 3 starts later. Have since installed a power switch cable.

Let us know how long you go. On my 2017 GS it through a CEL pretty quickly if I left it plugged in. They still seem to have issues with 2017's.

As I have posted in other threads: 17 GS using V8.6 for 2 months at least 1000 miles driven every other day. Keeps it out of four cylinder mode, no noticeable battery drain issue, has not interfered with OnStar diagnostic reports. V8.4 did not work in my car.

Negative. I have an early 2016 Stingray and a v8.4 Range. I get a CEL on the 3rd-4th start with it plugged in, and this is repeatable. I have no issues using a switched connection if I turn it on after I've started the car.

Interesting... are you going to have it upgraded?

Not really sure, TBH. I have the cord and switch neatly arranged on the driver side floor (not my idea, saw that somewhere on this forum) and it's just an extra minor step to turn it on and off. The part that I don't really like is that switching on the Range after starting the car is like using an OBD reader to erase your codes - I.e. any unrelated error codes you may have are negated by the Range. So what I'd *really* like to know about the v8.6 is whether they've truly changed their technology to not cause the CELs, or if they've just implemented an electronic switch that senses when the car has been turned on and then turns on the rest of their device. And then as an extension to the former, does it now continue to wipe out the other error codes (if any) or not. So until this question is resolved, I guess I'll just hang back and use my switched 8.4 such that if any unexpected CELs pop up (like when I start the car but I know the Range has been off) - then I can investigate further before turning on the Range and wiping out the code. Make sense?

I haven't seen anything formal from range to suggest one way or the other on that. Although I don't believe they are, the documentation still explains how you can wipe the codes like you could before. To me that implies that codes can still appear.

Personally I think that would be a dangerous business model to come out with a tool that they suggest you leave in all the time and as a result, it continually wipes any codes that could come up. That would be a huge liability.

I guess someone could ask, but I just don't think that is what is going on, I think they fixed the problem.

Completely unrelated question, sorry. How do you guys get line breaks into your responses? All my posts get mashed into one massive paragraph no matter what I try...

Are you using the app on a phone, or the web page on a phone, or a web page on a computer?

I use the app on my iPhone and the web page on my Windows computer, in either one, if I use the return key to start a new paragraph it seems to honor it.

Safari on an iPad. Weird. I will experiment with other devices. Sorry for the thread jack.

No worries, there is a specific forum for help where you can do some testing, might be good to do some testing there.

I've got an update on the 8.2 for ya Thunder. It has shown me a CEL twice on my '16, so as of now I'm still using the switch. Guess I'll just send it back for an 8.6 update. Hopefully it will be good after that, and I can do away with the switch.
