A Redline D4 look up yielded D4 ATF, as well as D4 for manuals:

Can we get simple ( if there is such thing) answers to:
1) is this Redline D4 ATF OK for a C7 2017 A8?
2)Does it Meet GM specs?
3) could it void a warranty if not GM brand fluid
4) Do dealers refuse to use other brand fluids when under warranty? Are they required to use GM/Delco OEM products by the GM?
5) should we really change all the drive line fluids after 1,500 miles?

1. NO! For the A6 & A8 you will need Redline D6 ATF.
2. Yes (D4 for M7, D6 for A6/8).
3. It will not since it meets the required spec (no different than switching motor oil brands). Redline is owned by Phillips66.
4. Depends on the dealer. My dealer has no problem installing/using customer-supplied aftermarket parts if you're paying them the labor to install it regardless of the car's warranty coverage.
5. Not necessary, but it's cheap peace of mind.

I can’t help the A8 people, I’m sorry. But a quick note for the M7 people. Please look at Kracka’s link to the Tremec 6070 PDF for answers. I just got off the phone with Tremec to confirm that the Lubricant Type listed as Dexron III ATF is still accurate. They confirmed. Now, no one in their right mind will tell you to use anything other than your manufacturer recommended fluid, especially on a recorded line (even though it’s the same fluid as in the transfer case of a 1990’s GMC Jimmy), but as long as your new synthetic does not have harsh detergents that will damage your synchros and meets the Dexron III ATF specs, it’s fine in my book. You make your own call.

Regarding fluid for M7. I use a blend of Redline D4 and MTL in my Temec 6060 and it works really good. Haven't tried it in the 6070 yet.

I have 43k on my C7 and decided to change the tranny fluid. The old oil was dirty but not overly filthy. However, changing over to Redline D4 which is a synthetic oil was amazing. I'm floored on how much better my car shifts. In cold weather shifting the lower gears was slightly notchy. That is all gone now. I'm left with a buttery smooth gearbox. I would suggest this maintenance to anyone who wants to improve the feel of their gear box. I would have done it long ago if I had known. The dealer will not put in an aftermarket oil so I went to a transmission shop with oil in hand and was charged 50.00 which is very fair.
Great tip trader, and what a deal. I wouldn't even crawl under the thing for 50 bucks.

Thanks for the link! Went to the website and entered my A6 equipped 2014. It recommended their D4 ATF. Here's what it said:

Are the GM standards of other brands of transmission oil (non-GM bottles) listed on the outside of their bottles? If not, is there a GM list that states the brands that do meet GM standards for use in transmissions?

Picked these up today. They meet the requirements for the M7. No particular reason to pick this over Redline or Amsoil, except I wanted to try the Mobil 1 and pep boys had a great deal on them online.

I changed the tranny fluid over in my old 4th gen Z28 6 speed manual to Mobil One when it was a just couple years old. Later it came out that synthetics could be harmful to early versions (mine was a 1994) due to the material the synchros were made of. Changed only that one time and I never had a problem with it... and the car is still serving as someone's DD now with 130k miles or so on it. Hard to believe that the trans mfgs haven't fixed that issue for good.

I am confused on the M7 I had purchased this Redline MTL 70W80 GL4 from a vendor here based on their recommendations and had my mechanic install it. I also purchased the Redline 75W90 Synthetic gear oil for my differential and had it installed. Is this the wrong fluid for a manual? http://http://www.xplosiveperformanc...--_p_932.html#

The 75W-90 is CORRECT for the rear differential.

It's a simple situation...if it is under warranty, use GM's recommendations.
Otherwise you might have to foot the bill if anything goes wrong.
