Over the past couple of weeks, when I get ready to pull the door handle to open the door the car remains locked. It always in the past unlocked the car when it sees the remote in my pocket. On top of this, pressing the unlock button on the remote also seems to work only part of the time. I tried a new battery/my other remote and same issue. I have to keep pressing the unlock button over and over and so far I have gotten in after many tries. I checked the car battery and it has a good charge. What is causing this? How can I fix this? I'm worried I will be locked out of the car soon and not be able to get in. My warranty ran out 2 months ago, so prefer not to take it to the dealer for a wild goose chase.
1) Try fresh brand name battery in your fob / check fob battery voltage. Weak fob battery is the most likely cause. 3 years seems to be the life of fob batteries.
2) Is the fob near a cell phone or garage door opener? Possible radio interference, especially with a weak fob.
3) Be sure you know how to enter the car by using trunk key and remote door release.
4) Does the fob work better on the passenger side or behind the car? There are several different antennas / receivers around the car.
So far this only happens the first time I get into my car in the garage. I tend to walk around the car pressing the unlock button until it finally works. I did replace the battery in 1 remote, I'll try replacing the battery in the other remote too to see if I got a bad battery or something. Thanks for the suggestions and I'll see what happens.

Are you saying that when you are NOT in your garage, the doors unlock without any issues?
The pressing of the unlock button on your FOB should get the car to unlock from 100'. Try the FOB batteries again, get new ones even if you just got new ones. Is there a crosshatch pattern on the new batteries you bought? Those suck, get batteries with the smooth back.
Both FOBs should unlock from a good distance. If both fail to do that after you replace the batteries, then you have other issues. It could be the RCDLR which is supposed to respond to your FOB.
That's why I gave you the flow chart. It will work it's way down and help point to the issue. The flow chart brings the 2nd FOB in to the testing process. Until you go through the flow chart, I can't help you.

You got 3 plus years on your car and fob batteries, and probably good time to change them all at the same time. You may have a bad cell in your car battery.
I am having the exact same problem so eagerly awaiting solution. I went on vacation, and upon return the car will not unlock unless I hit the key fob button. This only happens the first entry of the day. It is fine the rest of the day. Then, next day, same thing.
Replaced FOB battery in my early 2014 after 1 1/2 years.
Two years later just before I sold it, door would not always unlock and one time had to put FOB in steering column to start.
Checked both FOB batteries. With a meter I have had for years that loads the battery depending on size, to get good reading. Both read on the very low side of good. Replaced them with new batteries that read fully in the good zone! Problems gone.
