Low battery on phone makes no sense because you have to plug your phone into the power source to use ACP or AA anyway. So, you can use your nav and charge your phone at the same time.
And for those times when my phone completely dies, no power whatsoever, 0% on the battery - what should I do then? Sit there with the car running trying to get enough juice for it to stay on enough to actually use AA? Tried that. It failed.
No cell phone reception is a problem if you haven't downloaded the map in advance.
And again, if I hadn't downloaded the map, what then?
Let alone when that damn AA just will not connect to my car for some strange reason.
As I said, this is one good use of the factory nav as a backup.
Plus, mine's a 2016 and when I bought it there was no AA support. They said they would add it but you know how that sometimes goes. Luckily GM/Google came through.

What does that have to do with anything I said? Perhaps you don't understand. When I hike I take my phone. I listen to podcasts and I "Map my Hike" (<- an app). The fact that the USB port is hot is irrelevant if your phone is not connected to that USB.
Sure I could plug it in from a totally dead cell phone battery (car on or off) and wait for it to get enough juice to be able to even boot, let alone boot up enough to be able to fire up AA. Boot ups take a lot of juice ya know.
Or I can hit the Home button on the factory nav, turn on the A/C and be on my way...

Then I suggest the next time you ask a question that you mention you were out hiking. Perhaps you're the one that didn't read your post.
The one thing I like about the factory nav is that if I'm out hiking and come back to my car with my cell phone just about dying or unable to connect to the internet, I can still use the factory nav and point it to my home.
There are additional batteries for sale that are external to your phone and you can carry that extend the life of your phone.
Duh, I know this! And I even have a battery extender pack but ya know sometimes I forget to bring it along - or that I've neglected long enough that it too is out of juice.
Listen my whole point is that for those few times when circumstances dictate that my cell phone is not able to run AA to direct me home, having the factory nav is useful - PERIOD. END OF STORY. WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO ARGUE THE POINT?!?
We can debate until we are blue in the face the various scenarios and slipups that might cause me to arrive at my car far from home with no navigation available from AA but that's not really the point. The point is the previous paragraph and the fact that sh*t happens.
Geeze H Christ!
Geeze why are you so argumentative! This is a simple concept....
defaria has won the pissing contest. He wins on distance and quantity.
We can all stop now.
He's so humble, and kind to those that try to help. Not only the winner of the pissing contest (that he usually starts), he should get the forums "Mr. Congenitally" of the month award.
PERIOD. END OF STORY. WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO ARGUE THE POINT?!?

I would just use android auto but remember it only works if you have cell service. Out west here your NAV would be useless in the mountains. It also uses data and if you use pandora for music it will eat up your data, unless you have an unlimited plan. I don't have a C7 but I do have a 16 Malibu. OEM NAV is not as good but it works 100% of the time. Android Auto will shut off at times.

carry an anker battery charger so that your phone doesn't die.
If you set up the My Chevrolet app and set up your car with On-Star free trial, you will get three years basic for free.
From the My Chevrolet App you can send the directions from your phone to your car.
The Nav is not good, but it will get you there.
WAZE is the way to go.
Chevrolet is really pushing this app. The future has your car telling you that you need an oil change or any other service and it will ask if you would like to schedule it then send the info directly from your car to the dealership.
Apple Play does not require a subscription. Plug in your phone and it is all on screen.
But is does require using your cellular data and depending on your plan that could cost you. Also I have found on long trips that sometimes you loose your signal in remote areas and isn't that the place you want you Nav the most?

Not true. Google Maps, which AA uses, has the ability to download mapping data for offline use. I've setup a few offline maps for the San Diego area including places where I tend to go hiking. So I am "Out west here" and I assure you that AA and GM are not at all useless if you've downloaded offline maps. And even if you haven't, unless you're in like Death Valley or some really remote places, in general I usually have a signal. Finally, I'm pretty sure that GM doesn't need a signal to navigate you once under map guidance but rather if you don't have a signal then you probably can't set a new route or do any searches.
As for pandora, I use Google Play Music. spluged what $30-$40 for a 128 gig sdcard then just downloaded all my music onto my phone. Don't need to worry about a data connection at all (even though I have an unlimited plan anyway). Aside from that I use BeyondPod for podcasts, which is what I'm playing about 80% of the time anyway, and I have Audible for audio books for those long haul trips to Vegas and the Bay Area. About the only thing I constantly stream is the Tom Leykis Show on Tunein.
