Default Torque converter

Took my 16 z51 to my dealer today to change fluid in TC . 7500 miles on it and it was terrible, after checking build date the service writer told me it was an early build and that they would have to replace the TC . They gave me a loaner Malibu . I hate that they have to change it but I am relieved knowing their tech has dealt with a lot of vettes ! Should have it back by Wednesday . Love my dealer .

Why did you go in to have the fluid changed? Did you have the shuddering problem?

In most cars, the fluid in the TC is also circulating through the transmission, which is where the filter is located. You have to change the fluid in the whole system. Is the C7 different in that respect?

Another 15/16 needing a TC. When more of these cars get around 8-10K miles on them, we are going to see a lot more replacements. I don't think the 3 flush procedure will do any good on these 2015 and 2016 cars. Hopefully everyone will still be in warranty for their new TC's. I think the TC and labor totals around 3K.

I believe I have this issue on my 16 Silverado too... It has the AFM engine although its 5.3L. It has about 19K miles but I've had issues with it running shytty for about 5K miles. Power train bangs when its anywhere between 25 and 55 MPH and you let off the gas. I'm taking it in today but I will bet they try to blow me off. If you search the Truck Forums, Chevy has a lot of complaints about this.....I guess its Brand wide.

Please keep us informed about what they find. I have a similar issue with my 2014 5.3L A6 Silverado with 20k mi’s. The tach will occasionally dance around about 150 rpm. Been doing it since day one. You’d never know it if you weren’t looking at the tach. The drivetrain is buttery smooth. It doesn’t run bad or have any strange noises or vibrations. Very similar behavior to the A8 in the Vette.

In my 2016 C7 (5k mi’s) it only seems to happen while in the auto mode and in 7th or 8th gear and running on 4 cylinders. Starting to wonder if the tach dance is really a problem or just the nature of our Chevys and their transmissions or the AFM system? I know we tend to get rather OCD with our Vettes. I’m trying to just relax and enjoy both vehicles, but that’s hard to do when reading about all the TC issues. One tends to start losing confidence in them. Hope it’s not a ticking time bomb on either vehicle. Still have lots of power train warranty left on each vehicle though, just in case.

Have a 16 sierra with the tow package/6.2 liter and the A8. Got 6,000+ miles on it and this thing bangs like crazy when I touch the gas pedal at low speeds. Like the truck but not the banging. Thinking of getting rid of it. Thankfully I got the M7 in my vette...

Yup, same thing here. I would ONLY buy the M7 in the Vette. I'm glad I'm leasing the Silverado cause if they keep giving me the run around I can just say....here's your truck back.

Default Shudder and Shift

Took my 2016 Z51 with A8 into the dealer for what appears to be the TC Shudder and Shifting issue. I am not sure what they will do yet, will probably find out tomorrow? Car has around 1700miles. I noticed the shudder at about 900 miles and so started keeping track of each driving experience. I've seen some discussion here concerning AFM as part of the problem? I've never seen the indicator light show that the car was in 4cylinder mode? so not sure if it has operated that way yet? The check engine light came on flashing for about a couple of minutes once. Does anyone know if there is someone keeping track of the TC problem???

Dealer called and said they are replacing TC.

I've driven the car with a new TC about 120 miles. All speeds and roads. It is way better! No shudder, smoother shifts except for 3rd which seems to be a delay then hard into. Apparently Parkway Chevy in Tomball Tx has replaced several (many) under a tsb which applies to A8's built before 11/1/15. The shift into 3rd is still concerning, but the rest is so much better. If any problems crop up I'll update post. I am going to let the dealer know about hard shifting into 3rd.

26k on my '15. Shudder issue really popped up around 20k miles. Triple flush seems to be working for the time being but I am glad that the 2015s come with the 100k powertrain warranty

When I took my 2015 A8 in for the shudder and RPM problems the Service writer told me that GM would replace my TC just because of the RPM's moving up and down while at a constant speed. The shudder was driving me crazy and he also stated that the shudder would only get worse if my TC was not replaced. After the new TC, my transmission has been flawless and I have 22K miles on the new TC.

This subject has been discussed on this forum since 2015 when the A8 was placed in the C-7. Do a quick search on Torque Converter failures. A poll was also conducted and most of the TC problems were with the 2015 and 2016's, surfacing at around 10K miles.

Picked my vette up from the shop today ! It was only there for a day and a half. Drove it 35 miles home and could not believe the differnce it made . No shudder no rpm drop and no hard shift. Sure glad they changed the T C
Instead of just changing fluids . Loving it again.

my 16 vert is scheduled for maintenance on monday. is a new torque converter actually fixing the problem? at 13k miles, I have some time left on my warranty but i'm already making plans to replace it. it may be the best sports car I've ever owned but I will be my last vette for sure if they don't get the A8 up to snuff.

For those of us who might be in the market for a used Vette, we sure would like to know what the date is where they transitioned to the new style TC. Based on what the service writer told you, there is a definitive date when they made the change. Anybody know what that date in 2016 might be?
