Urgent: Drive it down or transport it my new C7 this weekend?

Just bought a new C7 Z51 Admiral Blue 1LT 7M from Les Stanford last week and I booked flights from Raleigh, NC to Detroit, MI to pick it up this coming weekend and drive it down 12 hrs on Sunday and Monday.
But the weather forecast is getting worse everyday. First it was going to be below freezing, so in anticipation, I made an appointment with the Discount Tire shop nearby Les Stanford to put on a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus RF on Saturday, the day I pick it up, and I'll ship my MPSS back to NC with Fedex.
But now, snow is expected for Saturday and Monday, so now I'm checking with transport companies for options.
What do you guys suggest? For those living in Michigan, will I be ok to drive south out of MI with snow and Pilot Sports A/S tires with freezing/sub-freezing temps? Is black ice typical on the highways?

Driving south from Michigan usually the conditions improve, but again check the forecast.

Why make the first time behind the wheel one filled with the wrong emotions. Just ship it, relax, sleep well and enjoy it when it arrives.

Personally, even if delivered I would still fly up and look the car over first and complete the deal in person.

Can you rent a trailer, drive up and haul it yourself?

OP- if it's any consolation, I'm in a similar boat. I have a deal with LS in process right now, which should close in a week or so.
Ship or drive is the question at the moment. A week or two ago I would have been all set to drive it back, now not so much.
BTW, shipping is looking to be a lot more than $1/mile (covered) unless we are counting round trip.

Just drove to a similar place along the great lakes, buffalo and north of it. Hit flurries, heavier flurries, some snow. Cold is running about 32 during day, drop down about 5-10 at nite. No black ice here but lots and lots of salt trucks----hugev trucks filled up, and with huge v-shaped plow blades attached. Went by ski slope in Ellicottville NY---some residual snow on a hill from some time---not sure when. My dark gray DD was perfect before I left; now it's turning white and gritty. Not gonna look at wheels until home.
Suggestion: take good advice: ship it to your house. Go up and look at it for the ticket price.

I certainly would not load it on a trailer to haul home. Then you have 2 vehicles + trailer to worry about "slip sliding away". I agree with all the ship it posts & it would be enclosed to avoid all the crap that might be thrown up on it from the hwy. Get a pristine car offloaded at home w/o any rock chips & then you can protect it with skirts/flaps/paint protection film if you care to do.

OP, I sent you a PM, let me know.

Ship it, since snow is imminently in the forecast. Get it's VIN # to your insurer and have your liability credentials faxed or emailed to you. Before that car leaves the dealer's lot. I called my insurer before I left my dealer's lot - with insurer credential liability card faxed to the dealer.

While weather forecasters are notoriously bad at getting things right, this could be the one time they are accurate. I would opt for the enclosed transport - could probably be had for less than what the tires cost (unless you just want the tires on top of the deal).

I can tell you right now if you have another vehicle for those very few days when snow might stick in the Raleigh area,
you are NOT going to need those Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus RF tires around here. Just drive it like a sane person in the cold and you'll be fine.
Hope to see you at a Cars & Coffee.

I live in the Toledo area just south of Detroit. It is supposed to snow all day Saturday here and that's it. Forecasters are usually wrong around here. Once south of here a bit you will be clear from what I see. I would be more worried about rock chips with all the construction in this area. Don't ask how I know!
