Default Rearview mirror glass or plastic - crack in edge

Cleaning the car and came across a small crack in the edge of the rearview mirror. Feels plastic... can't see a seam between the edge material and main mirror... is it all plastic, all glass? Are cracks a documented issue? Searched with no results. Car is a 2014 purchased used a month ago no more bumper to bumper.

From the picture it looks like a bruse to the rim and maybe a scratch on the mirror. Looks like something hit the top of the rim and scratched the glass. I don't see a crack.

Can catch it with a fingernail and see it in the material when shining a light through it.

Good catch! I see it.

I'm going to have a look at mine too - just in case.

If it bothers you, and it seems it does, it looks like you'll have to buy a new one unless you find someone parting out a wreck... I'd not think that piece would normally be damaged in most mishaps. If you have a half-way with it salvage yard they may be able to locate one for you. Best of luck.

Just trying to understand if anyone knows how the mirror is constructed? It seems like a special acrylic over the whole thing?

That's the "frameless" rear view mirror. Comes on the 2LT and 3LT trim levels. Don't know if it is glass or acrylic.

First report I've seen of one being cracked.

My 3LT's rim is abraided.
Look where my finger is pointing in photo below.
The chrome-look acrylic frame around the mirror, may have had the chrome scratched/removed off of it.
Mine's perimeter is good, though.

The mirror itself is glass.

Is it cracked or just scratched ?

Looking closer it appears to be a thin clear acrylic frame around the glass. The blemish is on top so can't really see it. Will take care adjusting the mirror.

My issue is in that the frame around the glass. Appears it's a thin clear acrylic piece to look like there's no frame.
