Apple Car Play

I bought a piece of property 4 years ago, and built a new house and barn. Google had it updated on the satellite image within 6 months of finish of construction. As of today 4 full years later, Apple Maps still shows a vacant lot.
I use Waze. Apple Maps has taken me to an incorrect location more times than I can remember. Moreover, it is clueless when it comes to traffic jams.

Can't say I've had any trouble with Apple Maps (supported by TomTom). When looking for map info on my iMac computer, I've used both Google and Apple Maps and sometimes both to see if there are different results and both have matched (so far).
As for factory Nav, that's a different story. I recently traded in my 2012 Yukon Denali for a Certified Pre-Owned 2016 Yukon Denali. So I noticed GM just released a new "2018" map update for it, so I decided to update for convenience, even though I could also use Apple CarPlay now in my Yukon. Well, first the wife and I took a roadtrip up to Wichita and she, for whatever reason, wanted to go to K-Mart
. Come to find out that one of them that closed back in January of this year was still in this supposedly updated POI listing!!! Next lack of current information was when we were out around town back in OKC and wife wanted to go to "Trader Joes," so I wanted to get the best route from where we were at the time and it wanted to send me to Tulsa for the closest one!! Ours in OKC has been open well over a year and was not in the POIs for this 2018 map update!!
Moral of the story, don't count on these new GM map updates as having current info!! You're always better off with Google or Apple maps!!!

I see this is old, but I would presume applicable to the current IOS. Unless I'm missing something (very likely), it sounds like Apple Maps does this (loads the applicable maps) automatically when you plan the route while still having a data link. Obviously, if you try to set up a new route/destination without LTE or wifi available, this won't work.
I need to find where all the Apple Maps function/capabilities are and do some research!!
THANKS!!

I then connected my iPhone to my GS and selected CarPlay and Maps. CarPlay guided me with voice and graphics to my destination so it had cached the route information. However, when I tried to have CarPlay take me back home it would not calculate the route without connectivity. I had assumed it would have the necessary information to do that but apparently not.
One disadvantage of CarPlay was that when I parked my GS I could not touch the top of the screen to get the front camera icon. I had to go to the menu and from there to the cameras.
I was also disappointed that I couldn't access playlists, albums, etc., when listening to music via CarPlay. I had to select what I wanted on my phone and then CarPlay would only advance or go back through music.
